normally they can only open it in a clean room, wich costs 250 there.

because a simple dust particle is 200 times larger than the grooves on the platters, so i presume they didn't open it. now lets hope thay wont try to screw me by waving a big magnet over the HD before shipping it back.

Really sorry to hear about your hardware troubles. I have once before used a data recovery company for files on one of my companies hard drives. Sad to say that it wasnt successful, as the hard drive was too far damaged. Cost 20,000 Euros back then however, so good to see that the price has come down! And of course the technology is better.

Depending on how badly damaged your hard drive is, there is an excellent piece of software, I would recommend you try before you pay for the service. http://www.recovermyfiles.com/

I work in the IT industry and have used it several times to recover files from Hard Drives which are corrupted and physically damaged. Hope you have some success with it, if you choose to give it a try.

Yeah sorry to hear about the map mate, i hope it can be recovered so we can play it in DH soon. Some lessons are hard learnt.
