Makes you wonder how it got there. It being a personal weapon, it presumably would have remained close at hand.

Only scenario I can think of is something along the lines of, guy leaves it in the basement where he's been sleeping, wakes up, gets out to take a leak, gets blown up in such a way that nobody expects to find his gun laying next to him so they don't spend much time looking for it.

Somehow war isn't romantic.
