Where to get Steam in .exe form?

RO:OST and Steam through WINE on Linux.

Why is my machine still dual boot? just for RO and team fortress? pffft.

So far I'm stuck at this point in the process - downloading the Steam Installer. I go to www.steampowered.com and "get steam now" and than "free download" and it tries to get me to download "steaminstall.msi"

Ok so what the hell is an .msi file?
I'm sure my windows 2000 won't open that or run it either.... Will Vista and XP?

So where can I get my hands on a .exe version of the installer?

First, get WINE (www.winehq.com), and then

.MSI files can be installed - Usually Windows applications use an .exe file to install the application. However, occasionally there are applications that use a Windows Installer File with an .msi extension instead (the current version of Steam, for example). There are two ways you can run this type of file in Wine:
Code:
wine msiexec /i install.msi
OR
Code:
wine start install.msi

I got it installed - new issue.... The windows are devoid of text. I'm shown the outlines of buttons, etc. However I can't see what I'm doing and haven't been able to get a game to load or play yet. Heres a picture of my nightmare :)

Maybe this has something to do with not having the right font installed in linux? (one that comes with windows) ya think?

I've got my own mouse issues too now.... The mouse sticks inside certain parameters and won't allow me to continue either turning or aiming up and down.

The same occurs when on multiplayer and configuration menu's and I have to whirl the mouse around violently to get the mouse pointer to "break out" of the imaginary box it's stuck in.

Let's say that I'm gaming at 1680x1050... all of a sudden the mouse will pretend it's stuck in a 1024x768 box and stop my movement within the boundaries.

EDIT: come to think of it.... this is the same issue you are having isn't it? I'm just interpreting it differently but I'm running off the screen edges and the mouse cuts out.

Just stop using Linux its only for pretentious nerd ******s anyhow, problem solved.

Zoring I don't normally rise to that sort of bait, but on this occasion I will. You are a first class pr_ck.

@Imnotryan. I run the game in a window of 1280x1024 but the mouse pointer does not stay within the window boundaries. It wanders off onto my normal desktop when I move the mouse. I did try that option in winecfg already. No joy.
