FPS decrease with a 8800 GTS ?!!

^^^
Yeah, I know that 1.7 GHz is killing me.

What if I just put the 9800 Pro back in when I build it? If paired with the E6600 CPU, do you think it would play RO better than the 8800GTS?

Not possible.

The motherboard that will support that cpu will not hold an AGP graphics card (the 9800pro) it will be pci-e (the 8800 gts)

I hope you have ordered a new motherboard and powersupply becuase you will need thouse to.

I just finished builing my system
Asus P5n32-E SLI
8800 GTX (1 card), not running SLI
2 Gig Ram
Intel Core 2 E6600
etc..
Vista 32 bit

pretty much stock, no tweaks.
I ran ran the game on the highest settings, and played Danzig with a full 32 person server and was getting between 85-90 fps, 1280X 1024, sometimes it would dip in the 70's, but overall I am pretty pleased, although I have no reference if that is good for a typical system like mine. Its nice to see the weather effects, stuff I never saw. Before I was on the lowest settings getting anywhere from 20-40 fps.

Seems it only affects people with Core2Duos + 8800. People without C2ds don't seem to get the stutters. Thats going from this post:

http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426102

And someone else I saw who doesn't get stutters at all in RO with his 8800 in XP. He doesn't have a C2D. Can someone give the fix a try from that post? I tried but I don't know how to get it to work with RO because of the way its launched from steam.

BTW Monstar, I tried that Power Management fix for Vista - still get Blue Screens of Death after about 5 mins playing.

Installed the latest XP Nvidia drivers for the 8800GTS available on the Nvidia site, Switched back to Directx 9c and gave the game a whirl....

Same old stutters same old ****y performance.... melipone I have an AMD X2 not a Intel C2D and getting the stutters.

Almost getting to the point where I dont care anymore with this game :p

I can play it in Direct 3D, although the visual is no where near as classy.
Nvidia **** with their driver releases atm, pretty bad considering the 8800 is the flagship for them.

im out of ideas... moving on :mad:

True : but the Nv 8600gts is derived from the 8800 xxxx.
Looking good for 220$.

To be confirmed !

Please be warned, i have read a review which states that basically the lower spec 8500GT, 8600GT and 8600GTS series cards are severely hobbled for features from the full 8800 series cards.

For example the number of stream processors (efectively equal to shader piplines) in each: (and frame rate in halflife2 @1280x1024)

8500GT= 16 stream processors 128bit Memory bus 24 FPS
8600GT= 32 stream processors 128bit Memory Bus 62 FPS
7900GT= 24 pixel shader units 256bit memory bus 87 FPS
8800GTS= 96 stream processors 320Bit memory bus 163 FPS
8800GTX= 128 stream processors 384Bit Memory bus 193 FPS (holy bejezus batman!!)

The review is from Atomic magazine Issue 77 (June 2007) page 50. I have just reproduced the results above.

The article was front page and called "GeForce or GeFarce". lol They seemed to think the the lower spec'd cards were being marketed as viable cheaper gaming cards when they really weren't capable of it.

the atomic website is:

http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/

I think you need to log in to read the article.

anyway from the above it would seem a 7900 is way better than the 8500, and better than the 8600.

Running 2 x 8800gts 320s, not problem with hitching or similar. Game runs very well. Other driver related issues persist tho (I'm running Vista 64bit). Currently on the 158.45 Beta driver. Actually RO runs better for me in Vista than mostly everything else.

In XP the minor stability issues I have with RO in Vista is nonexisting, running the 158.24 drivers there. Performance is excellent.

Don't mean to gloat, just telling that it is possible.

Hi, I have a similar problem with an Evga 8800 320 MB gts, and XP sp2, AMD 4400x2 cpu.
In several games and UT 2k4 Mods.:eek:
http://http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=558472
http://http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=82074

I have seen a few forums for other games and the 8800 series where in XP, alt-tabbing out then back into the game fixes the problem.
Hopefully its on the list for Nvidia, as it appears to be a memory leak type of issue and should be fixable with drivers and some decent testing on their part.
