OK, I've installed RO, DirectX problem!

Hi!
I just installed Red Orchestra but have a problem, when I double click on the icon on the desktop a window (Steam?) comes up saying that I need the latest DirectX version to run, complete with a link to Windows' DirectX website. OK, I click on it, download the latest DirectX (filename dxwebsetup.exe) and try to install it. However, after the "I accept the license agreement blah blah" window when I click Next; a window comes up saying:

An internal system error has occured.
Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine problem

After clicking OK comes an "Installation Failed" window.


Can anyone please help me resolve this problem, it's such torture watching all the pics & movies from in-game and npt being able to play!

Try getting the registributable package instead of the one from Microsoft. The one from microsoft is just a DX updater I think rather than the full installation. Like the one from here:

To bring your directX back to the state it was in when you installed windows, put WinXP cd in the tray, open up run, type in: sfc /scannow. All your critical files will be replaced, but then you will have to update your windows online again. "sfc /scannow"

Nope, no help. Altough it did speed up my computer a bit, thanks!

You could try one of the Directx uninstallers, but its risky because you might end up not being able to install directx at all and might end up needing to reinstall windows, but if you tried everything else and were going to reinstall windows anyway it might be worth a try.

Have you you ran a check disk? Weird that it won't overwrite the gcdef.dll

looks like a firewall is blocking the install which apparently needs the intarwebs to install.

Solved! I did a complete system recovery and it works like a charm now.
