Need some RAM

Holy Cow! $500?!?!

Ok, now that is too expensive.

Also, I forgot to mention this, but it has to be 184 pin.

Thanks for the response though. If I ever win the lottery I'll consider buying those for a different computer.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that I have an Abit AV8 1.5 Socket 939 pin K8 motherboard, which can support up to 4 GB of unbuffered, PC2100, PC2700 and PC3200 (DDR226, DDR333 and DDR400) DDR memory, according to http://www.a1-electronics.net/AMD_Section/Mobos/939/Abit_AV8_Sept04.shtml.

Try Newegg, they alway seem to have some of the best prices (not to mention, I always got the stuff in just a few days or less without special shipping to NJ)

Also, be aware of compatability issues and other things. My MB will support DDR400, but only if my processor does. Right now my memory is running at DDR333 because of my processor (I had purchased an upgraded processor to take advantage of the improved FSB speed/memory speed, but it was causing crashes I was unable to troubleshoot)

Like Spraduke said get some DDR1 with low latencies (you'll maybe need to adjust the timings in the BIOS if your Mobo doesn't do it according to the manufacturer's values though)

Here's what I had and it matches the advice perfectly: http://www.pcp.ch/Corsair-TWINX-DDR400-2x1024MB-CL2-1a12115518.htm

Very "agressive" RAM and with a lifetime Guarantee!

then your going to want to go and get yourself some 1 gig ddr 400 ram chips, anaything better then that wouldent work in your computer.

Windows XP supports up to 3 GB of ram. Or then it was that most motherboards only support up to 3 GB and Win XP supports up to 4 GB.
Damn this is confusing. I googled my question and I am getting conflicting reports that it can support up to 4 but only uses 2, or that only XP Professional supports up to 4, or XP Home can do it too, etc.

Can anyone give me a definitive answer?

EDIT: Also, I am thinking of purchasing http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145587 . Good decision?

What are the rest of your specs?

In all honesty, if the rest of the system is just 'decent', you're not going to notice a difference between SuperUber1337haxxorz RAM and either Kingston or Corsair's value line. They're both great products. I haven't built a system with an Abit board, so I don't know which brand they work better with. Also, you will probably never need the enthusiast lines unless you're planning to do some mean overclocking.

Pretty much the same as what you picked, but slightly (as in, nano-seconds that only matter for benchmarking and bragging rights) slower and 20 bucks cheaper.

If you want uber-ram though by all means go for it :) Whatever works for you.
