Wii released in the US

I can't find one anywhere here in Atlanta. When do the next shipments hit the US?

I was seriously thinking of getting one, then I realized that I have not heard a single solitary thing about online play. I know about downloading other nintendo games so there is some kind of online service (unlike the gamecube which had a port on it for online play but only one game used it ). So for those who have a Wii, is there some kind of online play for any of the games? If so, is it a service like xbox live or is it dependent it on each game (like the pc)?

Anyone who wants the console to survive. Lack of online play for all but one or two games was the single most important reason why the Gamecube failed. Playing online extends any game's life. Soon after online play for the other two consoles became a big hit it was realized that multi-platform releases involving the Gamecube meant it's version was the weakest and as consequence didn't sell well. So 3rd party developers slowly stopped making games for it, which of course lead to it being in last place because of lack of games. Nothing could have saved the Gamecube more than online play. So if the Wii doesn't have it then I predict last place again in this console war.

But will still sell thanks to its unique ideas...

The only reason Nintendo is still in business against the monsters
Sony and Microsoft is because they stay original all the time.

Everyone goes with CD's
Nintendo sticks with its Casettes... (tho it did not help much)

Everyone has standard controllers... Nintendo makes WEIRD controllers

Everyone Still has normal controllers... Nintendo makes WEIRDER controllers


Nintendo knows that in amount of games and Consol Power... it will not win.
So they aim at different markets...

Nintendo is mostly for little kids, and they have the odd mature game (Resident Evil)



The way I see it, the Wii is a gamecube with weird Controller support...
From what I seen, the Wii Graphics are no different from Cube.

It plays cube games
and it sells for cheep...

I rather aim with a gamepad then point a gamepad at the screen... I expected better...

It comes with a bunch of sport games that play with the retarded arm exercise controller/s
boxing is cool
Baseball is basic but cool
boaling is alright
tenis is great

But nothing spectacular...

The only regret I have is not buying it...

Nintendo doesn't make 'kiddy' games. Anyone who thinks that needs to pick up Chibi Robo or Pikmin 2. Just because the content isn't blood and guts and porn doesn't make it any less mature. In many ways, it's just the opposite. A 10 year old may enjoy running around the world of Chibi Robo. They're not going to understand the underlying themes that come through in the dialogues of the game, however.

Stop just saying it's kiddy because of how it looks. Play the damn games before jumping to conclusions. Gargh.

I agree with Tak. Most nintendo games have more depth and good gameplay than the blood splattering that are only centered around the violence in the game but lacks anything what gameplay and depth is.

Apparently they're having a "re-release" this Sunday, a repeat of the initial release. I don't have any concrete details on it, but you could call around and ask stores if they've got more for this weekend.

My friends and I managed to get a Wii in Atlanta on launch day by driving out to a Walmart on the western side of the city, just outside the Perimeter. If you try to go to a store in the north or south you'll have to fight off the hordes from Marietta and Peachtree City, but west and east is almost deserted. Try calling places out there this weekend and see if they're getting any, since not many people will be out there to buy them.

They've (foolishly) asked me to send one back, they want me to sent it back to them, and then pay me back postage costs afterwards. I guess it'll cost at least a tenner.
Now that's not happening. I'll enquire about letting me keep it (I'll pay for it of course, I can flog it for a profit) but otherwise it's not going anywhere unless they're gonna
