So how many points do I get for rallying the noobs via VOIP and convincing them to get some teamwork going on?
What about the machine gunner on my team? How many points does he get for keeping the enemy's heads down with suppressive fire while his teammates flank them? How many points for turning an enemy advance into a mass panicked dive for cover?
How many points does the commander get for shutting down an enemy sniper or machine gunner with a smoke grenade? Or for closing down an enemy avenue of approach with artillery, even if no one walks into the barrage?
What about tank drivers? They should get a point for every time they get a good angle and deflect an enemy shell, and at least two for providing a nice 90-degree shot at the side or back of an enemy tank.
The point is, it's hard to quantify the things that make a good RO player. "The higher rank you have, the better player you are" is complete rubbish. Kudos for the effort--you've done a lot to satisfy the little Counterstriker in us all--but there's really no way to put a number on how emphatic your end-round "gg" is.
Says it all.
I guess in the end, an admin can advertise a "non-ranking" server and presumably potential players can rest assured that the 1337-look-at-my-score mongers will not be joining. And (as someone is undoubtedly about to point out to me) if the server remains empty, then perhaps its time for some of us to move on.
