Hot Dang! That a great idea: A western mod for RO

I support this mod but I want Pancho Villa and his gang!

Oh yeah. I'll be riding my burro killing gringos left and right! :D

YES! mexican revolution! VIVA VILLA!

yeah that would probably be even more fun than a western mod, because there are actual battles to go by, and many of the weapons were either US issued, or imperial german ( on the constitutionalist side anyways)(Wilson at Veracruz anyone:D) if anyone was interested in making a mexican revolution mod, id be glad to help with any historical info

Viva Villa!

I would love to see a semirealistic western mod "

So would I! And I've made this thread to gauge other peoples interest and maybe encourage some people to start working on such a mod.

Just imagine the scenarios: Play as one of the 'black hats' who have riden into town to blow a bank vault or as a one of the marshalls waiting to ambush.

Pretty much any great western fight scene could be made into a map with a mod like this.

Well, what do you guys think?

I always thought a "realistic" western mod would be fun to play!

That'd be freaking awesome. If I won the lottery right now I'd pay big moneys to Tripwire to make a Mexican Revolution mod for RO:OST.

For this "mod" the level of realism should be almost the same as roost, with the pistols in roost sometimes it can take 3-4 hits to kill or one shot if your aim is good. To keep them from being same weapons with diff skins it could be like this,

Rusty pistol=cheap, lowest accuracy, broken sights
Normal pistol=avarge price,normal accuracy+ normal sights
officers pistol=expensive price, best accuracy+ the shiny look+ good sights

The sights could be off a little for the normal pistol but close.

though, the mod would need a lot more selection than this for the pistolas.

the lever action rifles should be a bit faster then Roost's bolties.

One Gameplay mode could be one team is the sherif and his men and the other would be outlaws, the outlaws have to get to the bank steal the money and make it out alive

Or a pure DM style would still be cool

IIRC mount and blade's mod forums had a Wild west mod in development but i think its dead now or almost.

This would be a very interesting proposition. Nothing like this has been really done before, or at well enough to be memorable. Colt revolvers, lever action rifles, shotguns, even the occasional bow and arrow.

I would, personally, like to see the Native Americans vs. US Army.

Here's a theme song I made for the mod JCoquillon was talking about. I made it using Reason and samples of real Native American drums to create a aural conflict between the Native Americans and the US Army. Throughout are NA hand drums, shakers, and flutes against the US Army's more orchestral and military instruments.

this is a great idea!

i really like the idea of the us army as well, and although i can only map a little, i would gladley become involved in this mod!:D

edit: also for roles u can pick, they dont nessacrily come with weapons, but instead cool uniforms and better acurarcy with centren guns, for instanes a sniper would be very accurate and his breathing wouldnt affect his aim while in ironsights, and a "brawler" (close combat specialist?) would do alot of damage with a broken bottle :D

If I can be a Mexican bandito with a lever action, a couple bandoliers of ammo and two pistols stuffed in my belt, I am all for it!

The thing I see as being interesting for a Western mod is that the sides need not be rigid. For example you can have the criminals (ie. cowboys, gun slingers, banditos) up against the law (sherrif/deputies), military (cavalry), indians, or even themselves (ie. shoot out). Then for fun you could even have the cavalry against the indians.

Imagine the different modes, bank robbery, raiding a hideout, standoff against the law, good old fashioned shootout. I like the idea a lot :D

Remember the ALAMO
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Alamo
A fortress fight with cannons.

Here's some small arms info
http://www.tamu.edu/ccbn/dewitt/adp/history/1836/the_battle/the_weapons/36weapons.html

Ther's lot's of weapons to choose from.
And I think it would be cool to have special classes for Jim Bowie & Davy Crockett
Some of the matterial can be recycled in a US/Mexican cvil war mod.

As real as posible, so no crosshair please.
But some adjustments must be made, muskets might be to slow but it can be balanced by adjusting the speed of the player movments, witch can be slowed down quite a bit.
We might also tweak the ironsights. If i'm not mistaken I think HD2 does it better.

I might be able to contribute with sound modding.

i thought he meant the western front ,but now i understand he meant a "western mod" im all for it.

pistol fights in towns and shacks, people saying,

" I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum - the most powerful hand gun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question--Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk!?":D

would just be great!:p:D

a lot of guys only loaded 5 rounds, so they didnt shoot themselves in the foot, wild west tech ftw!

but on topic, this would be fun, i used to play that western mod for UT2k3 and 2k4, but a realistic version could be entertaining

I think there could be a way to implement horses in a realistic fashion. Maybe horses that are indirectly controled, that automatically avoid obstructions.

It would help to observe real horses to understand the intricacies of the rider/horse relationship -- what does the horse do automatically, does the horse anticipate or predict what the rider wants it to do.

Instead of WASD controlling what the horse actually does, those keys could control what stimuli (the reigns for example) that the horse recieves, and then the AI of the horse will act accordingly.

I think it can be done

that or i would prefer to resurect an old mod i used to work on called insurrection 1776. its the battle between the states and the brits muskets sabers blunderbusses .. aye that mod was alota fun.

but yes, ive heard tell of people make this kind of mod once or twice before, and its always been the kind of mod that i wanted to play, but ive never played a fully completed one before.

edit : WHISTLES THE SOUND TRACK OF THE GOOD THE BAD THE UGLY

dont forget a sharps rifle .. meheuahahhahahahhahahahahah oh yeah and i want the sharps .45-120 plz, in the cartridge load not a ball and powder load...

oh and if somone wants to start up a mod for this i would be happy to try my best at modeling for the team.

edit2: horses .. pah .. i remember our best attempt at putting them in insurrection 1776 , beleive me mates thats INSANELY HARD , first theirs the model, it cant be low poly because horses are more rounded animals instead of smooth flat parts on tanks, also the animation is hard hard hard. i worked on the tester team so i know how funny some of the first horse animations can look.,.... on an orignal release i would leave horses out and get all the other animations down good.
