Cool to hear from any of u

Learned a lot of usefull lessons which I can apply to my personal life, in the army. I'm greatfull for that.
I served 4 years in the Dutch Airforce as a security specialist (Airforce groundforces) and a Stinger operator (Airdefense).
Good times, specially my time in Germany.

BUT... if you question orders or wonder why some things are done in a certain way and you know it can be done differently then the army is not your cup of tea.

Lots of countries still have mandatory service I see. I thought most countries didn't have that anymore. I'm glad my country doesn't; what if you don't want to join the army and want to study instead? That's like four wasted years.

Mandatory service was only for 1 year in the Netherlands dude. Not 4.
My dad needed to serve for 2 years and that was in 1969...

If you want to study, you will get a reduced service time.... This is how it works...

You graduate highschool - and have your uni/college admittance exam. If you pass, then you do your studying, after which you get to do a reduced 6 months of military service.

Otherwise, if you choose not to go to University, or you fail the exam, you will do the full 1 year.

At least that's how things were.

Retired US Air Force/Air Guard/Reserve 21 years total Service. Started as an Armament Sys Tech (bomb loader/gun A-10's) Retired as a Combat Cameraman (video/editing) Awsome times mostly, exceptions being Panama and round one in the desert. Retired as a Technical Sergeant after turning down Master (was really short and it wouldnt have added to my retirement and I would have gone to an HQ eech)
