The depth of field won't be in the game. Valve just uses this as a post processing effect for its trailers (watch the DoD:S trailer for an example). As of now, they say they still can't get it to run in-game with acceptable framerates.

By the way, for those of you guys with HL2, there's a mod called Exite! that basically just copies the portals but is really buggy.

Well they did say that the character was going to continue to be a part of the Half-Life universe. I honestly think it'll be a full game in the "real" world rather than any one facility, with the portal gun being a major part, but not the only weapon. Like Half-Life 2's gravity gun - a very useful tool, necessary at times, but no longer the only focus of the game.
