Gunrun's Freaking huge list of free stuff

I don't know about you, but I love free stuff. The best thing about this, is that there is tons of free stuff on the internet. Here I'm going to list some cool programs that can be downloaded and used for free. I'm not throwing these in any particular order, just in the order that they pop into my mind.

Keep in mind that I may have not played or used some of the things that are listed. Some things you'll have to check them out yourself.
Oh, and yeah. I voted 5 for my own thread! Muahahaha!

ART APPLICATIONS

The GIMP - http://www.gimp.org/

The GIMP is practically photoshop for the poor. You can do all kinds of junk, such as apply filters and effects. There are tons of other neat stuff as well. If you're a comic maker and you're stuck with MS Paint, this is a good program to take it's place.

GIMPShop - http://plasticbugs.com/index.php?p=241

GIMPShop is pretty much just GIMP, but with a more photoshop friendly interface. I recommend this over the original GIMP.

Picasa - http://tinyurl.com/mgzej
" An image organizer made by Google very nice and easy to use"
Paint.net - http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/

Paint.net is another great image editing/creating program. While it may not have quite as many features as the GIMP, it is much easier to use. Think of this as MS Paint on steroids.

Pivot Stick Animator - http://www.geocities.com/peter_bone_uk/pivot.html

Pivot Stick Animator allows you to create your own stick cartoons without having to deal with flash or any other program as such. It's possible to make them in 5 minutes, but if you really want to create something worth watching, you're going to have to spend some time on it. It can get quite addicting, which almost makes you forget how time consuming it can be.

Easy Toon - http://www.superfundungeonrun.com/easytoon/

Easy Toon is very much like Pivot Stick Animator, but is much more challenging to make something compelling with. And as sad as it always is, the more complex something is, the more possibilties it brings. If you were to master this program, you could make some pretty kickass stuff!

GameCam - http://www.planetgamecam.com/

GameCam is a better alternative to the game recording program Fraps. While it DOES have a watermark, and last time I checked it doesn't have any limit to the length of videos you can record.

Take One - http://www.take1.de/

Take One is a free GIF animator. Don't let the cheesiness of the website fool you, it's quite a good program. Check out the site for more information.

Open Office - http://www.openoffice.org/)

Open Office is pretty much everything from MS Office, but for free... and better! Check out the website for more information.

Endorphin: Learning Edition - http://www.naturalmotion.com/pages/le.htm

Endorphin: Learning Edition is a free physics/animation program by NaturalMotion. Check out the website for more information.

Wings 3D - http://www.wings3d.com/

Wings 3D is a free, open-source modeling program. I don't know a whole bunch about modeling (Actually, I know next to nothing), but it seems that if you're looking for a free modeling program this wouldn't be a bad place to start.

Anim8or - http://www.anim8or.com/main/index.html

Anim8or is another free modeling/animation program that, from what I have read, is one of the simplest around. That being said, I think it's a safe bet to take that THIS would be a good place to start. Also, some of the stuff on the main page may not be all that great, but there really is some impressive stuff in the gallery section.

Blender3D - http://www.blender3d.com/cms/Home.2.0.html

Yet another 3D modeling program. Like I said, I know nothing about modeling, so you're going to have to check the site yourself.

IrfanView - http://www.irfanview.com/

IrfanView is a good imageviewer/editor. You can make slideshows, apply effects, and if I recall you can also make gifs with it. Check out the link above for more information.

Pixia - http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/

Yet another image editor created by some japanese guy. I check the program out, and I was rather impressed. While the site may not be of the highest quality, don't let that turn you off from the program itself. Check out the link above for more information.

Terragen - http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/

Terrigen is a program that creates realistic environments. It's something that many people use to create their own skyboxes for HL1/HL2/other FPS games.

Artpad - http://artpad.art.com/artpad/painter/

Artpad is a very impressive site that lets you paint just as you would with actual paint. You can also see the way people have drawn or painted their work. Probably a good way to learn new drawing techniques.

DAZ Studio - http://www.daz3d.com/program/studio/1_0index.php

"Free 3d posing and animation software.
DAZ|Studio allows you to easily create beautiful digital art. You can use this software to load in people, animals, vehicles, buildings, props, and accessories to create digital scenes. DAZ|Studio includes two pre-configured scenes ready to "Load & Render" within DAZ|Studio. Double-click on the scene thumbnails inside of DAZ|Studio, and everything will come on screen posed, lit, and ready to create a stunning digital image." - http://www.software4free.org/

Art of Illusion - http://www.artofillusion.org/

Art of Illusion is a free, open-source modeling and rendering program which is written entirely in Java. It claims that the latest version is stable and powerful enough to take on high-end animation.

3DCanvas - http://www.amabilis.com/

Yet another free modeling program for you to choose from.

Apophysis - http://www.apophysis.org/

"Apophysis, a program that allows you to create really cool looking wallpapers. It is a freeware fractal flame editor, whatever that means."

Jahshaka - http://www.jahshaka.org/

"The worlds first OpenSource Realtime Editing and Effects System. Jahshaka takes advantage of the power of OpenGL and OpenML to give its users exceptional levels of performance. We currently support Linux, OsX, Irix and Windows, and Solaris is on the way! Jahshaka is licenced to the public under the GNU GPL agreement." - The website.

Inkscape - http://inkscape.org/

Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor, which could be seen an alternative to programs such as Adobe illustrator or CoralDraw. Check out the website for more information.

Lego Digital Designer - http://www.lego.com/eng/factory/design/

I wasn't really sure where to throw this game, so I put in the art section. This program allows you to create your own lego models, and if you'd like, you can even upload to the lego website and buy everything you'd need to make the model in real life!

ArtRage - http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html

This is an impressive program that allows you to create realistic looking drawings on your computer. While there is both a free and full edition, the free version has some pretty nice features, and has a very sexy look to it.

ZD Soft Screen Recorder - http://www.all4you.dk/FreewareWorld/ZD_Soft_Screen_Recorder-32056.html

Soft Screen Recorder (Like fraps, but for recording things like video tutorials)

AbiWord - http://www.abisource.com/

AbiWord is a free word processing application. Check out the link for more information.

Notepad 2 - http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html

"The original Notepad shipped with Windows is probably the handiest program of all times, small, fast, without frills! Notepad2 tries to follow this principle, it's a small, fast and free text editor with syntax highlighting for HTML and other common languages." - Website.

Peter - http://www.gemtree.com/peter.htm

Bit complicated to explain. Here's a description from the website: "The Peter system is a visual programming tool designed for a simple and fast generation of the programs for Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP. Its principal characteristic is the graphical presentation of the program structure. The program sections are assembled using the mouse like a jigsaw puzzle. Thanks to the justification check of the element combinations, carried out already at the time of the program generation, there is no chance of syntactic failure origination. The program presentation by means of a tree structure enables a considerable improvement of the program lucidity. The creation of the program is quickly becoming extraordinary easy and flexible."

GAMES

Soldat - http://www.soldat.prv.pl/

Soldat is a 2D shooter in which the quickest and most effective way to describe it would be a mix of Counter-Strike, Halo, Tribes, and Super Smash Brothers mixed into one crazy package. So, you have a jetpack that helps you get around the level, and a quite a few different weapons to dish out the destruction with, plus a grenade button for some quick kills. There is also quite a few different modes and settings to play with, including good 'ol CTF, classic Deathmatch, and plenty more. The biggest beef I have with this game, however, is the weapon balancing. For the most part it isn't really that bad, but when you're playing CTF against a whole bunch of grenade launcher whores, you'll see what I'm saying. Also there is a map maker you can download from the site which is fairly easy to use, so you could have some fun with that as well. I highly recommend this game to all.

Gunz: The Duel - http://www.gunzonline.com/

Gunz is yet another game that I've heard is great, but really don't know too much about myself. I downloaded it, then couldn't even get on to a server and didn't bother with it after that. From what I've been told, it's a massively multiplayer online shooting game that has all kinds of crazy Matrix ****. Check out the website for more information.

MapleStory - http://www.mapleglobal.com/

MapleStory is a 2D MMORPG. To be honest, I really don't know much about this game. I played for about 15 minutes and stopped playing right there. A bit too repetitive for me, but I know a lot of people who play and enjoy it. If you want to learn more about the game, you're going to have to look on the site, which can only be seen on Internet Explorer.

Kal Online - http://www.kalonline.com/

Okay, I think you get the point that I'm not too big on MMO games. This is another free MMORPG. I played it, too repetitive for my tastes. Once again, if you're at all interested, check out the site.

Gunbound - http://www.softnyx.net/

Gunbound is pretty much a free version of the classic Worms games, but less fun. If you don't own a Worms game but need your fix of wormage, it really isn't too bad of a game. Don't be expecting it to be an equal to the classic game, or else you'll ruin the entire thing for yourself.

America's Army - http://www.americasarmy.com/

America's Army is your pretty much your standard realistic shooter, but you have to go through training bull**** before you can go online. Yay! I've heard it can be quite realistic, though.

Tribes - http://files.filefront.com/tribes+fullgameexe/;3172689;/fileinfo.html

The classic PC shooter Tribes... for free! What have you got to lose except a small bit of harddrive space? Give it a go.

Quake Construct - http://mods.moddb.com/5373/

Construct is pretty much Gmod, but can play on computers that couldn't even dream of playing Gmod. No advanced physics or any of that kind of jazz, but still good fun.

War Rock - http://www.warrock.net/

Yet another game I haven't played, but has gotten quite a bit of praise from what I've seen some members say on facepunch. Check it out.

Counter-Strike 2D - http://www.cs2d.com/

Counter-Strike 2D is pretty much Counter-Strike mixed with the first two GTA games. Give it a go.

Paintball 2 - http://mods.moddb.com/2155/Paintball-2/

I remember my friend recommending that game to me. It's a paintball game that runs on an updated Quake 2 engine. Tons of wacky sounds. Should be fun for a least a little while.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - http://games.activision.com/games/wolfenstein/

This is a free, multiplayer-only game, released by the good folks at id, software that is set in the Wolfenstein universe. I've had very little expereience with this game, but it seems quite nice for a free game. Check it out!

Knight Online - http://www.knight-online.com.my/ or https://www.knightonlineworld.com/

Knight Online is yet another free MMORPG. I've never played it, but I've heard a few people say that they really enjoy it. Check out the site for more information.

Nexuiz - http://www.nexuiz.com/

Nexuiz is a fast-paced, futuristic deathmatch game that is very much along the lines of Quake 3. With the time that I've spent with it, it's quite entertaining, with some nice graphics to boot. I'm also impressed with the game's quality, considering the fact that you're not paying anything. I highly recommend you give this game a look!

Ogame - http://www.ogame.org/

Ogame is a futuristic browser-based game. While I have not played it, apparently many facepunch members are into it. For more information, check out the website.

Stick Online - http://www.bigsnoot.net/dustnet/index.html

Stick Online is a black and white, sidescrolling MMORPG. Once again, this is not a game that I've played, but it's popular here on facepunch. Check out the website for more information!

FreeOrion - http://www.freeorion.org/index.php/Main_Page

FreeOrion is a free alternative to the game Master of the Orion 3, A galactic conquest game. Be sure to give the like a look!

Enemy Nations - http://www.windwardreports.com/enemy_nations.htm

Enemy Nations is an old RTS which was apparently "ahead" of the times. It feels like Civilization mixed with Red Alert. It's now free via their website.

GTA/GTA2/Wild Metal - http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/gta.html

The original 2 GTA games are available for free downloads via the Rockstar website. If you haven't played the original 2, they're a lot like GTA 3, but with a top-down view. Not quite as fun as GTA 3, but that's not to say they're bad. Also, Wild Metal is available, but I've never heard of it or played it. Click the link for more information and the download links.

Noctis - http://anywherebb.com/noctis.html

Noctis is a 3D space exporation game which apparently has a very large scale. Billions of stars you can explore and you can even meet different life-forms.

Cube - http://sourceforge.net/projects/cube/

Cube is free shooter much along the lines of the Quake games. While I don't know too much about it, I've heard it has a very unique mapping system.

Sauerbraten - http://sauerbraten.sourceforge.net/

Sauerbraten is another version of Cube that is currently still in the works.

Block Land - http://www.blockland.us/index.asp

Block Land is a Lego building game that I've been told by some that is really entertaining. The graphics don't look like they're that hot, but gameplay is what matters, right? Check out the website for more information. http://rtb.mocheeze.com/download.htm Return to Blockland mod for Block Land which is said to have many nice features that are not in the original version

Hell of Sand - www.onemorelevel.com/hellofsand.php

While I don't usually throw web-based games up on this list, this game is definitely bad enough (As in good enough, because I'm not cool like 'dat) to hand with the big boys. Here is what Canesfan had to say about it: "That game will really hold you on for at least three days. It has realistic physics, such as oil burns really fast, water makes plants grow, but if you mix salt with the water, it won't affect plant growth. You can make zombies to kill, and set up in random emergency situations. You can also create sand, and wax, which burns slowly, and slowly accumulates if it burns over something."

The Ur-Quan Masters - http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

I don't know anything about this game, so I'm going to quote Cablekid: "Cool and fun game based off of the sourcecode for Star Control 2. Explore the galaxy, find aliens and make your own fleet to battle the evil empire of aliens or persuade them to join your fleet." Sounds pretty neat if you ask me. Check the above link for more.

Planeshift - http://www.planeshift.it/main_01.html

Another free MMORPG. Yeah... I'm not exactly sure what to say about it.

Wyvern - http://www.cabochon.com/

Wyvern is another free MMORPG that I got out of an old Game Informer article (Yay for Mod World). While it may have very, very (very) outdated graphics, it's said to have some nice character customization, and plenty of dungeons to master. Check out the link above for more information

FreeCiv - http://www.freeciv.org/index.php/Freeciv

FreeCiv is a free, open-source game based off the Civilization series. Civilization is a turn-based strategy game where you take control of a nation and win in several different ways. Check out the link above for more information on FreeCiv.

Carnage Blender 2 - http://www.carnageblender.com/

I don't know much, if anything, about this game, but I've been told that it's a turn-based strategy game of some sort. Check out the website for more information.

StepMania - http://www.stepmania.com/

StepMania is pretty much free DDR for your computer! But with this, you can put on your own music and jazz like that. If you like DDR, check this out. Keep in mind, that you cannot download a dancepad.

Crack Attack - http://www.nongnu.org/crack-attack/index.html

While it may sound like some sort of crazy druggy busting game, it's actually a clone of the classic SNES puzzle game - "Tetris Attack", which is not to be mistaken for Tetris. They both have very different concepts. In my opinion, Tetris Attack is the most addictive puzzle game of all time. While Crack Attack may not have all the neat modes from Tetris Attack intact (Haha), it still has the core gameplay, and that's what really counts.

Orbiter - http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/orbit.html

ORBITER is a free flight simulator that goes beyond the confines of Earth's atmosphere. Launch the Space Shuttle from Kennedy Space Center to deploy a satellite, rendezvous with the International Space Station or take the futuristic Delta-glider for a tour through the solar system - the choice is yours. But make no mistake - ORBITER is not a space shooter. The emphasis is firmly on realism, and the learning curve can be steep. Be prepared to invest some time and effort to brush up on your orbital mechanics background.

Starport GE - http://www.starportgame.com/

The hit game Starport is now available and still 100% free to play. Be the captain of a space-ship in this fully graphical action game. Carve out a name for yourself in a multi-player world full of intrigue and strategy. Team up with other real people, or blast them out of the sky. Explore distant star systems, establish colonies on alien worlds, hunt for treasures, and try to become the most famous captain in all the galaxy!

Celestia - http://www.shatters.net/celestia/index.html

The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. Celestia runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Open TTD - http://www.openttd.org/index.php

OpenTTD is a clone of the Microprose game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe", a popular game originally written by Chris Sawyer. It attempts to mimic the original game as closely as possible while extending it with new features.

CodeRED Series - http://red.planetarena.org/

The CodeRED games are a series of shooters that take place in a 50s-esqe alien movie setting. While CodeRED: Battle for Earth and CodeRED: The Martian Chronicles are singleplayer games, CodeRED: Alien Arena 2006 is a deathmatch style game simlar to that of Quake 3 or the Unreal games.

Battle for Wesnoth - http://www.wesnoth.org/

Battle for Wesnoth is a turn-based strategy game that is set in a medieval fantasy settings. Check out the website above for more information.

Racer - http://www.racer.nl/

"Racer is a free cross-platform car simulation project (for non-commercial use), using professional car physics papers to achieve a realistic feeling. Cars, tracks and such can be created relatively easy (compared to other, more closed, driving simulations). The 3D and other file formats are, or should be, documented. Editors and support programs are also available to get a very customizable and expandable simulator. OpenGL is used for rendering."

Planetside Reserves - http://planetside.station.sony.com/reserves/

This is a free demo of the MMO "Planetside" allowing you to take part in the main servers, but limiting you to battle rank 6, and command rank 2. I used to play this, it is a brilliant game.

Tibia - http://www.tibia.com

Tibia appears to be another free MMO, the website says "Welcome, wanderer, to the fascinating world of Tibia, a massive multiplayer online role playing game."

The Universal - http://theuniversal.net/

"The Universal is a free, massively multiplayer online game in which you explore a virtual galaxy with worlds owned, run and populated by other players. Each world in the galaxy is different, with different themes and gameplay styles - from persistent economies to arcade-style blasters." - Cabledude

Second Life - http://secondlife.com/

"An online society within a 3D world where you can explore, build, socialize, and participate in their own economy. (note, this game is a pay to play if you want a Premium account, but a basic account is free as long as you provide either a Phone Number/Service, or a valid credit card.)" - Cabledude

TA Spring - www.taspring.clan-sy.com
A free 3d version of an RTS called Total Anihalation, looks pretty sweet

Liero Xtreme -
http://lieroxtreme.thegaminguniverse.com/

This is a fun game that's like a real-time version of worms. Tons of a wacky weapons, destructable environments, multiplayer action, and much more. Also, there are plenty of different skins that you can choose from, including 8-bit Mario, which sold me completely on this game.

N - http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/n.html

N is a free sidescrolling game that's said to be reminisent of Lode-Runner. It has some neat, stylish graphics.

Scorched 3D - http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/

Scorched 3D is a 3D (dur!) version of the game Scorched Earth, which is a turn-based artillery game (Think Worms). For a free game, it has some impressive features, such as completely destructable environments and random map generation. The website obviously isn't all that sexy, but the game itself really isn't all that bad looking.

Glest - http://glest.org/

Glest is a free RTS game in a fantasy setting (Warcraft 3-ish). Check out the website for more information.

Wulfram 2 - http://www.wulfram.com/

This is a free, massively multiplayer online FPS, that the site claims, has quite a steep learning curve. Check out the site for more information.

FlightGear - http://www.flightgear.org/

FlightGear is a free flight simulation game. While I haven't actually tried the game myself, it looks pretty nice. Check out the link above for more information.

Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far - http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS...download&cid=7

"A Bridge Too Far offers real-time action that makes the battlefield come
alive with the sights and sounds of war" - The game's manual.
So basicaly: Its an old RTS game that is pretty neat, and is now freeware

Trackmania: Nations - http://www.trackmanianations.com/

This is an amazingly fun racing game, that by the looks of the site, you would think it was just your average, generic racing sim. IT'S NOT. I'd like to think of this game as Super Monkey Ball, but in racing game form. All kinds of crazy loops and jumps for your car to overcome. Also, this game installs Starforce on your computer. You should probably do a google search and see if this bugs you any. It really is a great game, however, and I'd hate for anyone to miss out.

Rakion - http://rakion.softnyx.net/

"Rakion: A 3D game where you can choose between 5 classes - Mage (My favorite), Archer, Ninja, Warrior, or Blacksmith. Made by the the same team as Gunbound. In my opinion it's better than Gunbound."

Advance Wars By Web - http://awbw.amarriner.com/

This is a site that lets you play the popular GameBoy Advance game "Advance Wars" over the web, against other players, with nothing more than your browser. The person who made the site is still working on adding more of the game's content, such as the AWDS units and COs. If you've never played an Advance Wars game before, there's also a section that teachs you a little bit about it so you can enjoy it as well.

Charred Dirt - http://www.charreddirt.com/

This is a remake, of sorts, of the game 'Scorched Earth'. While I've never actually played the original Scorched Earth, I guess it's what spawned games like Worms and Gunbound. So basically, you take turns on a 2D play field and blow the crap out of eachother and the environment. In this game, however, when you blow stuff up the broken pieces don't float in the air, they fall to the ground in a rather neat effect. I suppose this could be a fairly fun way to throw away an afternoon if you have some friends to play with, but since there never seems to be any servers online, I'd just stick with Gunbound.

Anarchy Online - http://www.anarchy-online.com/

Yet another free MMORPG. Yeah.

Runescape - http://www.runescape.com/

Bah, fine. I'm adding Runescape to the list. If you haven't already heard about it, it's an incredibly popular, free, browser based MMORPG. While I've never played it, if it sounds like your thing, give it a go!

Subspace Continuum - http://beginners.subspace.net/

A Massively Multiplayer Space Combat game of some sort. It looks fairly interesting.

Mono - http://www.binaryzoo.com/games/mono/

"mono - part Asteroids
mono - part Robotron
mono - part Paint Shop Pro" - The website.

Silkroad Online - http://www.silkroadonline.net/

I believe this to be another MMORPG. As usual with these kind of games, you're going to have to check the website to find other information on it.

Warzone 2100 - http://sourceforge.net/projects/warzone2100/

An RTS game, originally released in 1999, that has just recently been released for free.

Blitz41 - http://www.blitz1941.com/Blitz.1941

If I have to put another MMORPG on this list, I'm going to shoot myself.

Vega Strike - http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/

Phew! A game that isn't an MMORPG!
"A 3D Space Simulator that allows you to trade and bounty hunt in a vast universe." - The website.

Dispatch of Army - http://doa.cube-asia.com/

Finally, an MMO game that doesn't make me want to vomit in disgust, because it's an FPS! Check out the site for more information.

Frozen Bubble - http://www.frozen-bubble.org/

Frozen Bubble is a Puzzle Bobble clone.

not pr0n - http://deathball.net/notpron/notpron.htm

A bunch of internet puzzles, claimg to be "The hardest riddle available on the internet". Really, really fun but really, really hard. NOT A POINT AND CLICK THING

Mystery of Space and Time -

"MOTAS is an online graphic adventure game in which the adventurer has to solve riddles and puzzles, find and use objects, escape from locked rooms, find hidden passages and be a detective and examine everything to unlock the doors of the mystery of time and space." - The website. A pretty fun point-and-click adventure game.

Yahoo! Games - http://games.yahoo.com/

Play board and card games against other people.

NewtonPlayGround - http://newton.delphigl.de/newtonplayground.html

A really neat physics program where you can mess around with a lot of stuff, or play around with the pre-made demo levels.

iSketch - http://www.isketch.net/

Pictionary? On the internet?? No way! So in other words, someone draws and the other players have to guess what it is.

Fire Emblem by Web - http://febw.amarriner.com/

Like the above 'Advance Wars by Web', a way to play the GBA game 'Fire Emblem' against other players.

Duel Board - http://www.duelboard.com

A site that has games you can play against others.

Draw Ball - http://www.drawball.com/

Let out your artistic side for a whole bunch of others to see! Basically, this is a MMO drawing game in a huge circle. Draw something and hope that some punk doesn't mess it up!

Black Shades - http://www.wolfire.com/blackshades.html

"In Black Shades you control a psychic bodyguard, and try to protect the VIP (dressed in white) from a horde of zombies, snipers and other assorted would-be assassins.
Unique Features:
•Infinite randomly generated city
•Rag-doll skeletal animation
•Soul release mode
•Fluid aiming system
•Stop assassins by shooting them, knocking them unconscious, disarming them, tackling the VIP out of the line of fire, or any combination of the above.
It's recomended you read the readme in the place where you downloaded the installation file. Be warned, this could get addictive." - Monkey_123's post.

Sodaplay - http://www.sodaplay.com/

"Sodaplay is an open-ended, physics-reliant 2D (Java-based, while we're at it) sandbox remeniscent of Garry's Mod. You start by placing lines and line segments. You join them together and can fix points to the 'wall' or set up certain variables. Additionally, you can make a line segment a 'muscle', and have it fire at a set moment, helping you build walkers, cars and the like. Some people have amde insanely complex vehicles and scenes, some using mathematical formulas, and some examples are included in the 'game'. I highly suggest it, it's very fun and requires no download." - Hamburgler's post.

Space Cowboys - http://www.spacecowboy.net/

Another MMORPG, but with a twist! Pilot a high-tech flying vehicle and lay down the destruction!

Grid Wars - http://www.incitti.com/Blitz/

A clone of the popular Xbox Live Arcade game 'Geometry Wars'. If you don't know, it's Robotron on drugs. Very addictive. About just as fun to watch as it is to play, sometimes the visuals can be overwhelming.

Plasma Pong - http://www.plasmapong.com/

Pong but with a plasma-y twist!

FreeDoom - http://freedoom.sourceforge.net/index.php

The classic shooter DOOM, but for free! ... Well, kind of. The source for the DOOM engine was released, but the game's content was not, so these guys took it upon themselves to make a DOOM game that's completely free!

We used Steel Panthers III since it was the most stable version of the game engine yet created. The original game series was designed by Gary Grigsby, Keith Brors and Joel Billings. SP:WaW is a hex based, top down view, alternating turn ("I go, you go" or IGOUGO) game design. Armor, gun and vehicle units are represented by individual icons. Each infantry squad can have up to 25 men in it. Machine guns, mortars and artillery units are also realisticaly portrayed and crewed. Each hex represents 50 yards (meters) of the virtual battlefield, with many new terrain features added. Each game turn represents a few minutes of real time, and games can last from a few turns to entire campaigns." - Website.

Battle Position - http://battleposition.e-games.com.my/

A real-time version of Gunbound.

Curator Defense - http://www.davidbhowe.net/cd/main.htm

This game is very reminicent of the popular defense games of Starcraft and Warcraft 3. If you don't know what those are, I'm summarize it for you. You got a huge hoarde of enemys coming your way, so you build structures and such to stop them to get to a certain position. If too many units get past, the game is over.

Ocular Ink - http://pistachioproductions.com/dart/

When Tchernobog's Cabal has fallen, there's millions of challengers vying for your throne out there in cyberspace. Be sure to hone your skills against the enhanced FrikBots before defending your title in online bloodbaths. ActiveWorlds - http://www.activeworlds.com/

I guess this is a game similar to Second Life.

Cave Story - http://www.acid-play.com/download/cave-story/

"I just finished playing through this game, and I was blown away by how awesome it is, Especially considering it's free and only 1mb.
So, pretty much, it's a sidescrolling game that's kind of like a mix between Metroid, Zelda, and Contra. There's a nice assortment of weapons to choose from by the time you beat the game (which I think took me about somewhere between 7-9 hours), all of which have their own use at certain times in the game. Also, by picking up experience dropped by enemies, you can level your guns up to become even more powerful. However, if you take damage, the weapon you're holding will lose experiences.
And to make things better, the game also contains a fairly nice storyline to keep you hooked up until you actually beat it. At the beginning of the game, it's likely you're not going to know what's going on, and that's okay, as I think that's the way I think they ment it to be. From what I've heard, the game also has mutliple endings.
The game has a very retro soundtrack. It made me feel like I was playing a NES or Gameboy game (Well, with considerably better graphics). I'll admit that at the start of the game, the music got on my nerves a little bit, but as I played on, I wasn't really bugged by it at all." - My review.

GeneRally - http://generally.rscsites.org/index.shtml

GeneRally is an excellent top-down racing game, along the lines of MicroMachines if you've ever played it. It also includes a track creator for creating your own tracks.

Facade - http://www.interactivestory.net/

Facade, I guess, is an interactive drama. While this doesn't exactly sound like my kind of thing, if you're interested, check out the website.

Out of Order - http://www.acid-play.com/download/out-of-order/

I was thinking that we don't have too many (or any, I don't think) point-and-click adventure games on this list. I only played this for about 30 minutes, but it appears to be fairly entertaining and humorous.

Neverball - http://icculus.org/neverball/

I believe this to be a Super Monkey Ball clone. If you've never played a Super Monkey Ball game, you have to guide a rolling ball to the end of a stage without falling off.

Head over Heels - http://retrospec.sgn.net/games/hoh/

"Head Over Heels was released, um, a while ago. Around about 1987 if I recall correctly and it was immediately praised in the press as being quite the bestest thing ever. Not only was it a huge game for it's time, it also had great graphics and was very addictive - if somewhat punishing in its difficulty level."

A top down action game.

Star Control: TimeWarp - http://timewarp.sourceforge.net/

A remake of the Star Control II fighting system, Super Melee! The menu system seems a bit clunky to me, but it has more Super Melee! features than Star Control II itself has, including a large number of more ships. The fighting is just about as fun, and it has network play!

Liero - http://www.acid-play.com/download/liero/

Seeing as Liero Xtreme is on this list already, I thought I'd add the original. Liero is a real-time 2D worms games.

An in-browser FPS currently in beta stages. Beta or not, very impressive!

Triplane Turmoil - http://www.acid-play.com/download/triplane-turmoil/

Thanks to this list, I have downloaded a couple of free games :D
And skype, my friends have been trying to make me download it, but when I saw it on this list I just thought "what the hell..I'll give it a try"

And yeah, Tibia is a free mmorpg, but there is also a premium account which you can buy, which gives you loads of other features etc. But a free account is just as good.

I was addicted to that game for ages <.< It is a very popular game, it has 70 servers (official ones) with a capacity of 900 players (free accounts) and unlimited ammounts of premium accounts
Tibia has a great community, and unlike other mmos like WoW, people chat alot, they hang around at the depot, just talking, and community made events happen very often! And when you talk to NPC's, you just dont press them and choose answers, you actually TYPE to them, like you type "hi" and they reply, then you have to take it on from there, like typing "i need help" and they answer with "ohhh, but i cannot help you!" :p

, the biggest problems I see with this game is the CHEATING, alot of people cheat. Auto hunting programs, aimbot (so they pwn in PvP) and account sharing, like you share your character with your buddy and just keep hunting 24/7.

There are too few gamemasters, like 20 or something, and they have 70 worlds to monitor, I mean comon? :/

The ONLY upside with all the cheating is that you can kill the cavebotters when they hunt, and get all their runes and equipment :D (In Tibia the death penalty is HUUGE) So make sure you don't die.

Phosphor is really amazing! you just need the newest version of Flash player and a little plugin, and you have an FPS game!

How the hell did they do this? its graphically on par with UT (the first UT), you even have all the control setup and graphics tweaking there, very very cool!

All you poor sad people stuck behind a computer at work now have something fun to do when the boss is not looking :D
