Discover the most unique mod in existence, so good it has won the 3rd place in the Make Something Unreal Competition and
has managed to maintain many players for all three years of its life!

The mod I am referring to is Air Buccaneers. Many may remember this game, some may have even played it. For a short period of time, it appeared this mod was dead. Then, like a phoenix, it arose from the ashes. The game is growing again! Not only is the game growing, its developing. While the official server is no longer up, there is a community supported server (Yes, we, the community, support it financially. That's how much we care about this game).
The community members have also started independent development on the mod. Besides a few of amazing new maps, new ships and weapons are being developed as we speak. Since a few weeks battles are being organised every weekend.

Gameplay description:

AirBuccaneers is a modification for UnrealTournament 2004. It contains a multiplayer game type with airships, cannons, airmines and various other pseudo ancient gadgets. The game is a compelling combination of graceful air ballet, fierce pirate-like action and 3D tactical manoeuvring.

In short: Hot air balloons with cannons. Need I say more?
Teamplay is a key element of the game.

Every Saturday and Sunday we organise the AirBuccaneers Pirate Evenings. The Pirate Evening means that we play with as many as possible people on the server and have a good time playing this beautiful game. Veterans, new players, everyone is very welcome.
The Pirate Evening starts around 18.00 UTC (GMT) and ends and ends when everyones killed each other several dozen times.
The server we use is the [DoubleSkill] server (213.202.217.154:8777).

See you soon onboard,

Yarrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Aaah, too bad I uninstalled UT2004. If I still had it I would come.

You're right Yoshiro, they really have to switch to a different engine. If they convert to UT2007 it'll be just a matter of time before it's dead... for the second time. They should make their mod for a game with a community actually interested in mods, like RO. :) Especially now that TW added flying vehicle code (or however you call it) to the SDK.

That would be interesting, because it's a very nice mod. The BFE / ABU session night was a lot of fun.

I took UT2k4 off the drive once ROOST came over (actually, once the announcment there would be a UT-free RO came out :p), so I won't be installing again, but Air Bucs is something that everyone needs to experience at least once. If you have UT2k4 and have never played it, it's worth the install just to play around with it.

Airbucs was one of the best games ive ever played. It has a style that is so strong and the gameplay is so unique. The biggest problem is that the playerbase is very small. I would love to start playing it again but I dont want to put 4 gigs back on for a game that I might play depending on if there's ever a full server. Id love to see it ported to Ostfront.
