Bolt Action

I know each weapon has a role to play in an infantry squad, its own advantages and disadvantages.

But the more I fight in RO, the more I find that I come to rely on the good old bolt-action rifle. Any one else developing this curious affection for the basic infantry weapon?

You're not alone 'brotha, lol. It has the most versatility in the game. Designers did an outstanding job in making it an instrumental part in terms of the general scheme of maneuver.

I cant get enough of the K98! But i also love the G43 for the ability to shoot off rounds so much faster!

I only use the K98 and the M91/30.

My love is with the MP40 and K98. MP40 for up close, great for hipshooting! And the K98's accuracy is unmatched, allthough I find the russian rifles easier to aim with

I play with a bolt most of the time, though I will take a self-loading rifle if one is available. Very rarely, I'll take an automatic weapon from a fallen soldier for room clearing or camping enemy lines of advance.

So in answer to your question: Yes, the bolts rule.

The Bolt action rifle is the only rifle i use. Though i do find that the Semi automatic rifle completely dominates the Bolt action because i think it comes close to the Bolt action's accuracy and range while having the semi automatic ability. Making it so that you can kill far more enemies in a much smaller time span. Unfair

The bolt rifles arent the most versatile weapons ingame imho and got many disadvantages... but for myself I noticed one thing which makes "the bolt-rifles" a lot more effective: They make you play more carefull if you want to do good:
You need to peek around corners, watch for not being suprised, predict your enemy, make your first shot at the unaware enemy count etc.
So for me its basicly the psychologic effect, but its amazing!
And they are just reliable... if you aim somewhere you know you'll hit there. With the mp40 (as an example) I still can't hit crap with the iron sights, I just can't manage to find the sweet spot

I am a bolt-action affendicado to. I prefer the k98 rather than the g43 even when that is the choice. The g43 feels more inaccurate to me, I have a harder time hitting with it. And since it's a rifle I almost always squeeze of two rounds whenever I fire the thing(In rifle mode I always "work the bolt" whether one is present or not )

When you master the hip-shooting and the melee, the rifle is everything any trooper will ever need. That being said, on Red October and Stalingrad I usually go for a automatic class tough - dense urban combat is the one area in which the rifle is exposed as inferior.

Yeah its true, even for someone who has played the game for a long time. It is now that I find myself choosing the bolt actions mor and more, this is in part because I have gotten much much better with them. But also there is something deeply satisfying about puttignyour man down with one bullet. Its... well its cool.

Good to see so many people lovin' the bolts. IMO, they are one of the many, many reasons RO is different from other shooters; people are actually, actively picking rifles not just to show off their skills, but because in many cases, they're more versatile and useful.

actually i do take a ppsh41 on maps like stalingrad, but only because i want the saper , and cqb with that baby is reallly fun ...

I have one scene to describe the greatness of the rifle(semi or not), the one in The Thin Red Line where the American soldier kills his first enemy on a grassy field from far away.


That's the feeling you get in RO.

Certainly the bolts are more "forgiving" for those of us with bad aim/shaky hands, etc. But by the same token the semi-autos are good for that also. I've found I do much better with the semi-autos, just because about 50% of the time my first shot misses.

I never attach the bayo either -- I can't hit anything at long range with it on.
