To be honest I thought Stalingrad was pretty bad. The acting was horrible in places and the editor should be put against a wall and shot for butchering whatever story was in that film.
Urm, sry but are we talking about the same film? What kinda "butchering whatever" story do u mean?
Oh, and btw, the acting was brilliant in this one. At least those from the german soldiers (ok, i have to admit, i'm a big Dominique Horwitz fan
), maybe some minor stereotypes, f.e. that sadistic major is maybe a bit overdrawn.
But all in all, never seen such a realistic depiction of german soldiers before in a movie...just normal you's and me's, fighting for a cause they dont even know. Together with all the slangs and 1940ies behaviour... really well done acting.

Winter War was ok, but not great. It seems to be like Come and See, in the regard that because it's rare everyone makes out it was some masterpiece. Both ok films, but nothing special.
Well, sry again, but what makes a movie "special" for u, then
? Yeah, i got your point, these both are not so well known and therefore maybe ppl might tend to overrate them a bit....but, honestly, especially "Come and See", i've never seen a more dense and horrific warmovie before...its an absolute nightmare.
If u ask me, that movie is what Apocalypse Now could've been, but whenever Coppola gets close to its horror he suddenly falls back into some beautiful pictures/ common army stereotypes, etc. Klimov is much more consequent, imho, it gets darker and darker all the time...
Gawd, someone must be deaf and dumb not to cry at the end, when after all this slowly W.A. Mozarts "Lacrimosa" rises in the final picture...
