Level Design Burning Sands looking for mappers

Great a tutorial that would make it easier *jumps for joy 4 the sdk*;) but isn't it difficult?? i mean for a guy with no experience?
Depends on your background. If you have 3d modeling experience, texture experience, you should be on your way pretty quick, that's not to say you will still have to learn the do's and don't s of creating levels technically.

For a total unexperienced guy, it's hard probably. You will have to grasp the concepts of 3d as well as gameplay, lighting, flow of maps, and all that in a 'realism' kind of enviroment.

You won't pickup up on Level design in a month or 2 or something, it needs time, experience and patience depending on what kind of quality you want.

If you are really into learning it, nothing should stop you from makiing test levels, small ones... and once you have more experience try your hand on your first small map that you will share with others. But before you get there you will need to learn about optimization and flow, the two main specific aspects of level design if you are looking to make multiplayer maps.

There are many forums out there to help you out with the UnrealEd.
You can find Tutorials for the UnrealEngine 2 here (RO should work very similar):
http://udn.epicgames.com/Two/WebHome
http://www.angelmapper.com/

If you are able to write or read German you should visit us here:

There are a lot of tutorials concerning the UnrealEd 3.0 (The one UT2004 uses. RO should be based on it, too) and a forum full of nice people.

Mapping seems to be easy if you don

One of the tutorials I've written for the SDK walks you through creating a very simple, but WORKING RO level from starting up the editor to actually being able to play. The level ain't much more than a hollow cube, but it has everything you need to begin your own customization.

I believe in tutorials that let you see results quickly. When you get fast feedback, it's easier to start trying new things, and thus learn. Learning is addictive (at least for me), so a fast do-see loop is more likely to help you get over the initial hump.

Anyway, that's the theory. Stay tuned for the SDK. I'll also probably add more tuts once it's released.
