Server Kicking and Banning Concerns

I run a dedicated server for family and friends which often serves younger adolescent players. However, on occasion, it is open to the public. I require the ability to maintain family values on my server. Kicking and banning are tools to ensure appropriate behavior. An example of one such ban was a player who announced to the group that his keyboard was sticky from watching porn before he played.

My concern is that having read that the ability to kick and ban is being taken out of the web admin in the next update. Since the admin console kick and kickban commands don't work, server administrators will not have the ability to remove and ban offensive players from their servers. How will I maintain appropriate standards of conduct on my server and have the ability to remove bad actors exampled above?

Please don't remove the web admin kicking and banning functionality until there is something to replace it with, even at the console level. Yoshiro, I would love to hear from you on this.

Thank you,

David

I totally agree with all of you sentiments OP.

We rent a public (UK based ) Killing Floor 2 server for the past years and it has become quite popular with players from around Europe. We always set it up to run beta as soon as the new updates drop. In that 2 years I think i have only kicked about 10 players at the most. Its not a feature I use lightly or very often. some times its only to make room for our friends on our server, and i am never really happy about using it for this reason and its rare I do that. But it is the reason we pay for our own server as well as map control.

So last night we had 5 friends on and one public player, a sixth friend came on our Discord and we could not remove the extra public player on a server we pay for. Its so rare for us to have 6 friends on but it happened last night. So when i went to remove that guy it was then that I realized the the kick option was gone.

So now we do not know what to do with out server?
---- Its up for renewal in January and I am considering canceling the subscription.
----Another member of our group suggested we just password it and let all our friends know the password.

What ever option we pick it Damages the community imho, less servers out there is not a good thing. But these are the only options we are left with now as trip wire have taken our other options away from us. When I rented the server I had the option of making the server private from the start and that came with a lower renting cost. but now it seems its all we can do or delete the server.

We do feel that KF2 may be coming to end of life soon and wonder if this is another step to bring that to pass.

Heres hoping TW change their mind.

The usual TWI touch. Destroy the game more and more with every update. Remove features instead of fixing root issues.

There is no valid reason to remove server owners their right to be at home on their own paid server. You want players to have a vanilla experience with your own rules? then open more public TWI servers with your own rules. Don't force people. You're only blocking people who don't know what's going on (yeah nobody knows why you remove a whole admin control panel part), and people you want to force not doing whatever, will just continue doing what they were doing, another way.

You don't want me to use the web admin to kick or ban players? no problem, let go back to the basics, I will ban the IP directly in firewall

This is a real pain in the ass. Some players use special characters/languages on their names which you can't just copy from web admin and ban them in the game. I can't believe what TW is thinking. This is supposed to be a private server which we have a right to screen the players who come in. Why they wanna destroy this game even more.

There are servers with the name: No Vin Allowed (No Fun Allowed)
They kick any player that plays with Firebug, Demolitionist, and Berserker
and there are other servers that allow them called (only fun allowed)
These servers are limiting the abilities of the game for no apparent reason. Therefore, they are being investigated by TWI

I don't see the problem with creating environments where only certain perks or perk levels are allowed. I cringe when a low level firebug comes onto my suicidal server and rages the scrakes and getting his teammates killed.

There are usually 2 - 3 thousand KF2 servers online at any given time. I don't understand a knee jerk reaction to a few server owners setting limits on the kind of play they want to have on their servers. The ones I've seen set their rules clearly.

If I lose the ability to kick and ban players who bring their deviant behavior (as described above) to my server I will stop hosting.

Why wouldn't it be OK if they kick people who play with not allowed perks? Isn't that the point of having your server? Having your rules?

I see servers advertising only this or that allowed, just don't join them if you don't want to.

So now because reasons, servers admin will not be able to kick or ban without following TWI's guideline code of conduct BS or whatever?

To echo myself, we know this isn't an ideal change for admins, and it is only intended to be temporary until a better solution is implemented. But in this case the team decided to err on the side of the better play environment of most players while that work continues.
OK I get that for the web admin but why not enable or re-enable kick and kickban for the console? We would at least have some method of getting deviants and other bad actors off our servers .

If you mean the in game developer console, that works. The management console is part of webadmin and that is currently what is disabled.

I feel like this is another situation that will trail for 6 month to a year if ever resolved..

0 trust.
They fixed the underslug problem, they have a visual that I can tell you if you're loaded or not. Also, they have been buffing the fire axe, rhino, gunslinger, and survivalist. They're doing some slow progress but they deserve to be trusted right now because all these problems have been circling around in the community for years now.
They deserve our patience

Well, I for one am not going to wait around. I need a way to get bad actors like "Cervix Pounder" (currently playing under "carrots that smell like fish") off my server for the protection of my wife and daughter who also play. I've purchased all of the DLC weapons and when I leave the game Tripwire loses any future DLC purchases I would have made. Family values are more important to me that protecting the rights of deviants to play on any server of their choosing and offending people who are there for the game.

Well, I guess I'm another one to add to the list of outraged and disappointed server owners. I literally cannot believe this was intentional change. When in the history of dedicated gaming servers, in any game, by any company, on any platform, has just altogether removed the ability to boot?

I've decided to start keeping track of the unacceptable behavior that I'm being forced to tolerate now. This is from today:
-7 racial slurs.
-2 homophobic slurs.
-1 gratuitous screaming into microphone.
-4 join and then immediately go AFK for the entire game.
-and I lost count of how many were just deliberately terrible in their anti-team gameplay.

I pay for and manage a server so I can play this game and not be subjected to terrible people. It's online gaming; there's no way to avoid terrible people unless ya pay for and manage your own server. It's absolutely egregious that Tripwire would revoke this most basic and necessary function. Tripwire, how can this POSSIBLY be any type of a solution, temporary or otherwise? How could the (likely terrible) handful that have complained about being booted (for behaving terribly, no doubt) take priority over the people who actually pay for servers? What's the play here? What's the scheme? No way you did something this bone-headed unless there's something in it for the 'ol bottom line?

Anyway, you gotta fix it. Fix it. This'll be another server and couple dozen players who are jumping ship if you don't.

Still no valid reason from TWI to remove features.

We had to get used to being ignored for years for all the bug reports (yeah laughing hard when I read new Jacks policing us about the need to trust TWI and wait... the same as when a TWI staff tells me I need to report issues! THE ****!), and now you're even removing features because a couple people complained server owners rule their servers? Are you serious? We own our servers we rule them. End of story. People not in the mood of following rules can find another server, there are 3000+ servers available.

You can even do something, as I suggested earlier. You pay for you own servers, you link your broken match making with your own servers. No issue. People who join a server not accepting low levels, or specific perks, or whatever, just follow the rules or F off. No way you're removing the only power we have on our servers. As I said we know you enough, fixing a reported typo in your code can take 6 month to multiple years for being fixed, I have absolutely no trust in this "issue" (what is it? nobody knows for sure) being fixed anytime soon. This will go under the carpet like the rest.

You're not getting away with that one! Enough of this BS!

This decision making is pretty poor imho, punishing the whole community for something a toxic individual did. As a owner of 100+ kf2 servers, there is no way i’m going to enter the actual server to ban them instead of just pressing a button in the webmin, not that its even possible to monitor all these servers but now its gonna be totally impossible.
