the german half-track SdKfz 251 can be armed with everything from LMGS to AA guns. why not introduce some versions, especially on tank heavy maps, with a small AT gun at the top instead of MG? they can carry a 37 or 50 or 75mm PaK.

I like it too. Although it certainly would make the Russian "Light Armoreds" seem even lamer.

Yup they stuck a lot of big gun varieties on top of those half tracks, 37mm, 75mm, mortars inside etc.
I'd love to see some more variants of the half tracks like those one day.

Seriously, why do the Germans get a 6-seat vehicle, not including the driver and MG gunner, but the Russians only get a 2-seat vehicle INCLUDING the driver and gunner, that flips easily? Seems a bit unfair, I almost preferred the old Zis trucks to these things.

I don't think they ever mounted PAK 40's or even PAK 38's on the HT, those are pretty heavy pieces.
What you might be thinking of is the Panzerbusche 41, which was essentially a super AT rifle.
This weapon looks like a miniture PAK gun from a distance, but operates off of the unique "Gerlich" principle. This gun used a tapered bore to fire a "stripping" round, or APCNR, which was fired at very high velocity.
I do not have the exact figures with me here at work, but it was some where in the area of like 3,500 fps I believe. It was excellent for taking on tanks, especially the T-34 when other German AT guns were having trouble dealing with it, but the tungsten ammunition was soon used up and then no more could be made after Hitler decreed all tungsten to be used for machine tools from early-mid '42 onwards.
This gun was also issued to Fallshirmjager units initially because of its light weight and compact size.
EDIT: Just remembered they did have a variant with the PAK 40, but it was very cumbersome and prone to a lot of mechanical trouble. Also, there were some HTs fitted with the short 75mm (L24) as seen on the Panzer IV F1.

The halftrack would have to be stationary to fire it, and even then it would probably blow the vehicle backwards.

That's pretty god damn cool. There can be a third MG position, too. The PAK position could act as a tank turret in terms of aiming and firing.

Acutally, If u use VOIP, u can keep the half-track living for along time.Manstein said:who's gonna survive long enough to use them all tho?
I think this is a great idea! Maybe have like a Mortar inside, add the GHZ or w/e its called to the Russians as well
