Mother board question and ram question

First I would like to thank Erik and all the other members that have helped me get things sorted out dealing with my system.

My last question is this:

My MoBO has two slots for ram which run 128 twinbank architecture (i asssume means two 512 ram sticks will act as one) however my graphics card covers up the one slot. AM i able to just take out the 512 ram and put in 1 stick of 1 gb ram and have no problems? My MB can run up to 1.5 gb of ram (thanks again Erik!) I just want to make sure doing this will not affect anything, or must i use the two slots? I am guessing no, but would like a more expert opinion on it.

It would run fine, it just wouldn't be running as fast as say two 512 sticks running in dual channel.

Always better to have more sticks running in dual channel until you get up to like 4x512 then it's sometimes better to have 2x1gb just for upgrading in the future even.
