Does 2gb RAM make a big difference?

Im not willing to start digging around in my box to pull out ram, but ill tell you that Yes more Ram will make a difference. I gamed online for years with the usual amounts of ram 512, finially a gig, then 1.5gigs, now up to 3 (althogh someone told me recently that XPpro only supports up to 2 gigs ), Ive noticed a huge change with the increase in ram! Load times cut in half & im usually dancing around in a server while everyone else finially connects! More ram = goodness!

XP Pro will support up to 4 gigs of RAM, but each individual program can only address up to 2 gigs at any given time. I've got 2 right now, and I -need- the extra 2. That way I can have Lightwave 3D rendering with 2 gigs dedicated to it, and then still have juice left over for whatever else I want to do during that frigging long wait.

For hungryhungry: 1GB is definately at the edge. May be enough if system (and ro.ini) is fully optimized, but usually all kind of useless crap is filling the memory. Take a look of free memory from system monitor after map is loaded and game is running. For me 1GB is fully used and I ordered more memory ;).

I noticed in mod that having RAID-0 disks made also noticeable difference for map loadings, but memory is more crucial.

Following the other posts re playing with the ini file I was able (on 1GB) to cut my load from about 3-5 minutes down to about 1 minute. Next I'll try Enditall or FSAutostart before playing to try and free up some more RAM as well. Hopefully that will give me a shot at some of the more exotic/specialist classes sometimes, without adding more RAM.

just use task manager to find out how much RAM RO is taking up, for me, after start up of windows, we'll say 300 MB of RAM is already being used.

Steam uses about 20 MB, peak usage was 26 MB

RO uses about 483 MB, peak usage was around 485 MB

total memory being used w/ RO running for me is about 886 MB, but I have 2 GB of memory...so maybe if you have 1 gig, another 512 wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it's completely necessary.
