Tactics Mkb42

Yet it didn't. The AK-47 is a true assault rifle yet the M-14, FN-FAL, and G-3 all fire full-powered rifle rounds, meanwhile the M-16 has been primarily a semi-automatic rifle with a useless burst switch that occasionaly comes out in full-auto versions for a year or two until the Army remembers why that's a bad idea.

Honestly there are no assault rifles, just select-fire submachine guns firing cut-down rifle rounds instead of pistol rounds (AK-47) or semi-automatic box magazine rifles with an optional automatic switch. Or the M-16, which fires a .223 caliber miniature bullet at speeds nearing the old .30 service rifles.

... This reads like a troll post. Oh well, posting it anyway.

You can thank the U.S. army for that. The FN-FAL was originally designed for the 7.92 kurz, and the CETME (the Spanish predecessor of the G3) also used a weaker cartridge. The British where experimenting with an intermediate round as well. However, the U.S. army decided that only a full power rifle round would do, and forced all of NATO to go along - only to decide to use a .223 round a few years later.

Actually, a "select-fire submachine gun firing cut-down rifle rounds instead of pistol rounds" is exactly what an assault rifle is. And I would argue rifles firing .223 fit that description as well, not only the AK47.

In 1942, Walther presented the Maschinenkarabiner ("automatic carbine," abbr. MKb), named MKb42(W). In the same year, Haenel presented the MKb42(H), designed by Hugo Schmeisser as a result of this program. Rheinmetall-Borsig (some said Krieghoff) presented its FG42 (Fallschirmj

The Mkb was part of the first generation of dedicated assault rifles. Large magazines, select fire, high penetration, and excellent accuracy out to the average combat ranges (< 300m). It and it's cousins (the StG 44, etc.) sparked the arms race that revolutionized small arms like never before. Suddenly, one green soldier could put out enough firepower to match an entire squad of elite bolt riflemen, and you could have an entire squad armed with these things.

We're running into that same problem here. A significant number of Germans can put out enough accurate, high-penetration firepower to match 3-4 bolt-action riflemen each, and the Ruskies have no counter to it. If they gave them AK-47s, then it would be a bit more fair (though the AK is superior to the Mkb in many respects), but at the moment there is no counter.

Maybe the mod community could make an AK-47 mutator as an optional balancer, albeit not historically accurate :D

The M-14, FN-FAL and G-3 are battle rifles, not assault rifles. They are too long and too heavy and fire too large a round. That doesn't mean there were no assault rifles at the time.

Looks like a H&K G-3 or a longer MP-5, doesn't it? It's actually a French assault rifle prototype from 1950. The Brits were working on a bullpup assault rifle like their current one back then too. Do you know what happened?

The US decided that NATO had to standardise on 7.62X51mm, so all these prototype weapons were shelved until the Americans finally woke up and chose to move down to 5.56mm. The people who designed that French assault rifle went off and eventually made the G-3 and the MP-5. Both fired standard NATO rounds selected by the Americans. Because the larger round was too powerful for a CQB weapon, they went back to the old way of making a battle rifle and an SMG, instead of a single assault rifle.

In other words, everyone wanted assault rifles except the US. They were late to the party, and the weapon they came up with isn't that good (lowest bidder) but you'd think they invented the whole concept the way they act about it now.

I cant believe it, people dont stop to complain about the Mkb42. Whats the problem with you!! The Mkb42 isnt the superweapon, in closequarter combats mkb users have no chances against the holy ppsh and in long range battles i prefer a bolt gun to eliminate them. Guys it is only a matter of skills, not of the Mkb!!

No truer words were ever spoken. :IS2:
