World War 2 Online vets?

Played alot in the first months of 2011. This game is awesome but to me it doesn't feel like WW2. It feels more like WW1 because of the presence of the French, even in '44 you know :S. And the graphics really push on that feel lol. They could at least push on the textures. But the game in overall is marvelous, I'm not a graphic whore but at least I like to have some nice textures when you can have it, many people got good computers now. Nothing beats it's immersion though.

If they could cut some of the map..

Also it's sad that ships are rarely used :(

I know gameplay > graphics. It's just when you see such a huge amount of fighting going on, mass bomber formations, tanks piling on...kinda want to see the graphics enhanced just to drive the atmosphere home. I stopped playing a few months short of the ragdoll physics and terrain changing. I may just go back to it (I periodically do, especially when current games are boring) My callsign was akmarine

I dont know what you people are on about :( please explain
Long description short. It's a massive multiplayer online combat simulator. 1 server, 1/2 scale terrain of Europe. Takes place during the invasion of France and goes from there. You can fly planes, drive tanks, drive boats, and fight as infantry; all on 1 server. As the war progresses, technology is researched to make weapons more improved (Bf-109 E-4 to E-7 Pz 3 D to Pz3 H etc) However, if you want to try to get an edge, you can have players form up bomber formations (with fighter escorts because you never know!) and carpet bomb the enemies factories to slow their R&D time. This means their upgraded weapons come out later and you'll have that slight edge.

So if you play Germans for instance, you can have Stukas dive bombing while Ju-52s paradrop players into a town to cap. While thats going on, you have tanks and opels with troops coming in from the ground. If there are masses of water, you can have troop transport ships load up troops and tanks and cross said water.

All player controlled. To top it off, they have a pretty intense damage modelling system to boot. No HP for vehicles.
The only major downsides IMO is lower player counts than it used to have which typically goes hand in hand with the next thing, the graphics turn a lot of people away.

If you prefer solid game play over graphics (it came out when the high end 3d card was the voodoo 2 ;D) you'll definitely have a lot of fun.

any of you active players, if you have some actual gameplay screenshots, cold you please post them? Kinda hard finding good gameplay screenshots and videos from the latest ragdoll/graphics re-haul patch (1.33 I believe?)
I am asking because this is the WWIIOL I remember (random IGN screenshot from 2001):

Spoiler!

and yes, I know it has changed tons since, and that's why I'm asking, because I want to witness the change before I start considering trial version.

also - is it easier to find action now? is the system good in encouraging teamwork? and do "clanless" players collaborate with each other, and with clan players? and what about VOIP? command system? and anything else you might find important noting. I haven't played since October 2002, last thing we got was ships.

I played WWII online at release and every second I could for about 3 years. That game still holds a ton of gaming memories for me and was the 1 game I really nerded out in example below.....

My 2 friends and I contacted CRS and asked them if they would like to hang out with some players at their favorite watering hole. We setup the event for 2 to 3 years which I hear now is an all weekend spectacular. The 1st ever CRS mini-con was a blast!

Will post some screens today :). Alos YES it's easy to find action + teamwork now. Freaking easy.

They're adding a 'Rapid Action' function in 1.34 along with americans and the G43 Gewehr(?) for germans. Think they have up to date screenshots of their development on their Facebook page.

Oh and they're adding bazookas
They're adding americans? The nation? I might sub now

I'm sure the majority of us RO1 vets came from WW2OL.

I still remember day 1 WW2OL release.

We were so excited. After 2 hours getting the game to install and connect....

We had our 1st tank column move out. As soon as we hit the road next to water the whole game locked up and became a lagfest for weeks. What a huge disappoint that was. Eventually we got some months of quality gaming but it was short lived with the skeleton crew of gamers left.

Once RO1 mod was announced it was godsend. Been faithful to the RO series since.

Maybe Tripwires next project could be a reboot of WW2OL...

I can only hope.

What are the current player counts for WW2OL?

Hey lepski! I remember playing with you. 12th Panzer Div was ****ing fun to play with.

WW2OL might be my favorite game I've ever played... bad graphics but some damn epic game play. Attacking a town with 50+ people, tank columns, air support... sooo damn cool. RO2 is the closest I've come to that feeling since I stopped playing WW2OL in 2004/2005, had been playing since launch day 2001.
