Stalingrad book list

If anyone is interested I can PM you a list of Stalingrad books that I highly recommend.

Stalingrad is a battle that is enthralling and many books written are superb.

A starter point is "Stalingrad" by A Beevor.

But there are better books than that.

Any chance you can just post the book titles and authors here? I can PM you if you want me to, but I'm sure there are many in this forum who are very interested as well.

Historical.

Before I start the list my favourite Stalingrad book and probably my No1 military history book is Island of Fire by Jason Mark....it's very expensive but I treasure my copy...the research and detail is second to none...highly personal with first hand accounts of every action during the battle of the Barrikady Factory. Ask someone to buy it your for Xams or something...once the last of the soft covers go it will be very expensive...like the book "Death of a Leaping Horsemen By Jason Mark" is. Thats another superb Stalingrad book but you can only get it second hand now and it will cost the earth.

Infact any book published by Leaping horseman press is superb...they specialise in Stalingrad and the east Front...a book on Cholm is about to be published which is on my wish list.

For those who love the novel kind of first person books I will put an asterix beside the number.

Some of these books will have to be bought second hand...most are on Amazon.

List is in no particular order.

1. Stalingrad by A Beevor

*2. Infantryman at Stalingrad by Adlebert Holl (leaping Horseman press)

*3. An Artilleryman in STalingrad by Dr Wigand Wuster (leaping Horseman press)

*4. Blood Red Snow by G

Thanks Wodin for such an awesome list. Yikes - 190 bucks for the hardcover. I wonder if any of the good libraries have a copy. Looks like I'll have to find out.

Excellent list - thanks for sharing. I look forward to reading many of these.
You might get lucky and find some of those expensive books to download from somewhere.

Some of the better researched books on the subject. Pricey, but worth it.

As mentioned in my list...Islands of Fire is my all time no1 military history book out of a rather big collection....I can't say enough how people here need to ask for it as an Xmas pressie or something. The Death of a Leaping Horseman is now out of publication and fetches an astonishing price...so call books from there an investment.

I'm getting the Cholm book for Xmas...treat myself...Jason Mark is an amazing researcher and the detail of individual soldiers and there experiences is amazing.

Hey Wodin - not sure if you've heard of Dan Carlin, but he's a historian podcaster here from the United States. He did a 4 part series called Ghosts of the Ostfront that I think was absolutely excellent. Right now, he's got all four episodes up (about an hour apiece) and only suggests a buck a show for a donation (that reminds me, I need to send him money again to support my habit) :D Take a listen, I think you'll enjoy them as well. After playing the game a bit over the past week, I decided to listen to them again while I work...

His hardcore history stuff can be found online, here: http://www.dancarlin.com/disp.php/hharchive
