[Music] Looking for some constructive criticism

See, I've written this song here, it's a generic war/action track.

I'm looking for some constructive criticism to get to know what people think.
I've been writing music for roughly a year now, and it's become quite the passion of mine.

What with the release of Red Orchestra 2 coming soon I felt inspired to write a War-style song.

I've only ever shown my music to friends and family, so I hope you enjoy.

If you want to download the highest quality I've zipped a .wav file here.

Lower quality, but smaller .mp3 here:

Disclaimer: I'm not a music guy, but I like music..
The snare-roll (or whatever ti's correctly called) at 0:42 sounds.. off.. it's to far 'forward' or off by a half-beat or something? It really just sorta seems like it stands out in an ackward way to me.
The roll at 1:14 'feels' much better, but still seems semi off.. maybe a quick fade-out on the effect just to round off the tail?

The backgound melodies are pretty nice, but seem almost to far in the background.

The transition around 1:38 seems.. semi-laboured.. the sounds like the first snare hit is too delayed or something to me, like the transition is stuttering or something?
The transitions at 1:46 and 1:58 sound good

At 2:08 it sounds like, and I mean this constructively, a trainwreck just happened.. who hit the 'power noise' button? I understand what you were trying to do, it just doesn't work for me. maybe refactor the '**** just got serious' section some?

The transition and ending sound OK.

In general, that horn sample isn't working for me, unless you're going for a very-obvious synth-sound or youTube's 240p quality is munching it up horribly? If you could a more natural sounding brass, I think it'd work well.

Again, just my opinions from an untrained musical guy.. overall still way beyond what I can do, so good work! :]

Thanks :) untrained or not, the human ear and mind can distinguish what they like regardless. Also my samples are really not great and I'm just trying to work with what I have - youtube isn't the problem.

Cheers again, and anyone else with help like this is gladly appreciated :)

seems like the levels were kinda whacky... volume was changing

Might be youtube. The quality was reduced a lot.

Thanks guys, while youtube may have reduced some quality my samples are all freebies at the moment :p so they're part of the problem too.

I'm glad you like it :)

Here's the highest-quality in .wav. 48mb zipped.

Here's an .mp3. This 2mb file may sacrifice some quality but it's much smaller.

Should loop gapless in winamp, dunno about other audio-players.
