The question is simple...

What should the Firebug start with at Level's 5 & 6?

Personally I see the MAC-10 as the obvious level 5 weapon myself, and would definately urge for it to be changed... but what about Firebug 6?

Armour + MAC-10?
or
Flamethrower?

I am greatly torn on the matter. See my gut feeling keeps saying Flamethrower, and I've always loved that flame spurting death machine of awesomeness... but then I stop and think "Yeah but the Flamethrower is his top weapon... and spawning with armour is really quite tasty too...".

So... what do we reckon? :)
 
MAC10 and then MAC10 + Armour, I suppose. The flamethrower is the "ultimate" firebug weapon, so I believe he should have to pay for that one.

Well, since Sharpshooters start with a xbow, supports with a hsg and medics with a medigun, I guess it is fair enough that firebug starts with a flamethrower. Given the price, it hardly matters anyway. We usually have one guy going firebug early to feed the rest of us money.

I see no reason to give him armor because it does nothing for the perk. Medic starting with it makes sense because his armor is perked and that - along with his instant healing - are the two strengths of the medic. What I'm trying to say is it's an odd choice. It's like giving a commando or support specialist armor at lv 6 or giving a sharpshooter 5 grenades to start.

So I vote for MAC 10 at 5 and Flamer at 6. :)

I agree, starting with the Flamethrower on perk level 5 is kind of backwards... really backwards.

Perk lvl5 should get the Mac10
Perk lvl6 should get the Flamethrower :IS2:
Why should Firebugs start with armor at level6? Because they have one of the weakest guns in the game, the Mac10.

So let me get this right, if this was the logical formula behind the perks, then this is how the other perks should start as well:
Sharpshooter lvl 5 starts with the Crossbow
Then lvl 6 Sharpshooter starts with the Lever Action Rifle and Armor!
Then the Support Specialist should get the Double Barrel shotgun at lvl 5 and at level 6 he should get the Shotgun and Armor...
See how dumb that is? :p

So why is the Firebug this way? :confused:
I felt as if I de-leveled when I hit perk level 6 with the Firebug. I remember the good ole days when level 5 Firebug started with the Flamethrower AND armor... But since the perk level 6 and the Mac10 came along TWI kind of went crazy and "tweaked" the Firebug. :mad:
This needs to be fixed!

Well the original reason for giving him armour in the Level Up Update was obviously there was no MAC-10 for starters, and the Firebug had to rely heavily on armour at low level to be able to wield the falmethrower without killing himself.

Obviously the Firebug at Level 5 (and 6) was immune to Fire damage, but Firebugs simply got used to having armour as a standard part of their loadout, and having armour at level 6 was simply the next logical extension of their fire resistance ability.

Obviously now, the MAC-10 is on the scene... but I'm not 100% convinced by the FT on wave 1. The FT is a beast against all the ZEDs that spawn on wave 1. Even with armour you can still cock up badly with the MAC-10 if you aren't disciplined. The FT, you ahve to be REALLY inattentive to botch that up... :)

I dunno, I always liked the money efficiency of the Firebug, it was one of his main advantages. Taking away that money efficiency by costing him

The Flamethrower is already an overpowered weapon at the early waves. Especially at the hands of a level 5/6 Firebug, it can rip apart any group of clots and gorefasts. I personally feel that the Flamethrower is more of a DPS weapon for the Firebug, and that he should pay for it instead of getting a free one at the level 6 starting loadout. Hence I think the reasonable loadout is the MAC-10 for both late levels of the perk, but with an added armor at level 6 in case the player gets flanked by specimens. The MAC-10 is a low-tier weapon that fits in the role of the Firebug (Doing DoT to specimens without blocking friendlies' vision with too much flame).

Actually, the Flamethrower is more overpowered than the Crossbow. Although Crossbow have one of the best output damage for both perked and un-perked, its ammo is too expensive to be used on the weaker specimens, as the trade-off between using a $10 (Correct me on the pricing if I'm wrong) ammo to kill a clot that gives a minimum of 1/4 of the ammo price is a far cry, especially in the harder difficulties. Handling wise, the Crossbow is also not as efficient as compared to the Flamethrower. Bringing in the hard difficulty settings (Suicidal, Hell on Earth), clots and gorefasts will move at an increased speed, and players will probably not have enough time to plan down something to take care of the group without wasting ammo and aiming down their scopes on them. Sure, if you're proficent enough you can aim it without scoping in, but what if you miss? You're gonna waste the ammo, plus the specimens will have a chance to get close to you and trap you.

It doesn't make sense that at level 5 you start with the Flamer then at level 6 you get downgraded.

THIS. Maybe if it was mac10 at level 5 and mac10 plus armor at level 6 it would make more sense but the way its now... Especially for us who were used on having flamer and were suddenly forced to use the secodary weapon.

True its only for the first wave but still annoying.

yeah I feel the same, its silly to have the best gun on wave one.

SS gets Crossbow which is basically his best weapon, even tho m14 is considered to be higher tier. But like I said there wouldnt be any problem if he never had the flamer as starting weapon in the first place. Its like changing commando to spawn with an AK at level 5 and Bullpup at level 6. Makes no sense.

Flamethrower at level 6 is as "overpowered" as the Chainsaw for Berserker or AK47 for the Commando. It's totally fine really.

And the Xbow is, even if it had its pricing corrected, still awesome on the first wave, even on Suicidal/HoE because of its "railgun" penetration. I can get equal or sometimes even MORE kills on public servers than with other perks if i start as Sharpie, just due to the power of the Xbow. Use 9mm on single longrange targets, shoot a bolt through lines of specimen, and shoot a bolt "downwards" through a specimen so you can pick up the bolt again, against close targets (and not too many of them).
I mean, you are gonna sell the Xbow anyway, so why bother thinking about being economical with the bolts? (Although yes its stupid to snipe single clots at range with the Xbow, due to the pickup / lineshot useage it has otherwise, unless it's the last one or so).

So once again:
Mac10 at 5, Flamethrower at 6. It just makes sense!
