ANZAC Forces style suggestion

One former Viet Cong leader is quoted as saying; "Worse than the Americans were the Australians. The Americans style was to hit us, then call for planes and artillery. Our response was to break contact and disappear if we could...The Australians were more patient than the Americans, better guerrilla fighters, better at ambushes. They liked to stay with us instead of calling in the planes. We were more afraid of their style."

This seems to be a recurring theme with ANZAC forces, there being more of a focus on guerrilla tactics than shock and awe. It would be really interesting to see this represented if and when ANZAC eventually comes to the game.

Given the maps are designed to be played specifically by the different factions, perhaps there could be more of an emphasis on deep jungle warfare for their maps, with the faction actually being SASR? That all SASR platoons had one NZ troop attached this would not only make sense, but offer some pretty stark gameplay differences. A removal of near all helicopter and artillery support in favour of better personal camouflage (with an impact on recon support if people still insist on running around shirtless) and overwhelming firepower, as the attached image suggests.

I'm not sure quite how it would be balanced out, beyond the NLF or PAVN having some pretty complex tunnel systems and further emphasis on traps maybe. but it would make an interesting change of pace and tension to include a faction such as this.

They still used their Canberra bombers in close support at times. Plus they relied on artillery quite a bit.

But yes they did fight differently than the americans. They used to be part of American forces. But they had to split due to tactical differences. Not logistical reasons but because of differing tactics. That's a key point.

They did have more recent experience fighting in those conditions due to being involved in the Malayan emergency.

I have read a lot about it recently and they did tend to draw Vietnamese forces out. They were almost always hitting enemy positions with artillery during an engagement. They would call in extra fire support when needed as well. But they didn't disengage and let the fire support do the work. That's one of the big ways they were different. The ANZACs in some cases were calling artillery on positions 50m from their own positions. They used smaller artillery guns than the Americans but it allowed them to be more deadliy since they could call them on their engaged enemies. Rather than calling it on troops behind the frontline that would scatter at the first oppurtunity. If you have them occupied they can't spread out and find shelter.
