A-1H skyraider ( pilotable aircraft)

we have helicopters gr8. Yes we have off map air support from fixed wing aircraft, the Spooky gunship, and A f4 that drops a pair of napalm canisters but id like to see a Pilotable fixed wing aircraft. It was THe A10 of its day, the favored Close Air support platform during that conflict. the A1 Skyraider.

It was much preffered by the troops to fast moving jets, because whilst they could get to the battlefield faster, they had lesser station time, and fast moving jets were not as accurate in the delivery of munition as the slow flying skyraider. the Low n slow flying skyraider had a easier time of spotting targets, than fast movers, and could loiter on the battlefield for long periods of time.

It aught to have a spawn point a small forward airstrip by a FOb and be pilot able. Could be balanced by relying primarily on Strafing with its 20mm guns, have some FFAR 2.75 inch rockets like the cobra , and maybe a pair of He mk81 or mk82 bombs. IRl it could hold more but it could be balanced. it runs out of ordinance it returns to base to rearm. Given its a piston aircraft,t and relatively slow speeds, in a era of jet aircraft it make great CLose air support aircraft, and a complimentary alternative to helicopters, as well as a viable option to be player piloted.

IM honestly surprised this aircraft was overlooked. as it was also very iconic still quote relevant use in that war, used by both the US navy, and the the US air force.

Typically called "Spads" I think? Like you said, much loved for CAS.

IDK about being able to actually fly one, but there are lots of different planes & ordinance that would make for cool new commander abilities. I could even see an Arc Light B-52 strike if it was a one use thing or scripted into the map.

Partial to the OV-10A myself:

I wonder if it could be made to do a gun run then circle like the 0-1 does? Or at least replace the O-1 with the 0-2 for the sake of modernizing. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...O-2_Skymaster-1.jpg/300px-O-2_Skymaster-1.jpg

If we ever got large combined maps with lots of ground units for the NVA, and maybe one MI-5 troop chopper and one gunship, and maybe a type 63 AA tank (t-34 inside is already mostly modeled, you would only need a turret : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_63_anti-aircraft_gun). you would also need more effective AA emplacements (20MM guns etc.) and ways to build hidden dshka's for support). then maybe it would be fair to put in a sky raider on very large maps.

This thread earns the stamp of "it will never happen". Try instead for adding it as artillery support type in the near future when some modder accomplishes only that, as an artillery type. It was attempted with the mosquito.

Project reality really did it well:

Rising Storm 2 won't fair too well with extremely large open maps, there is no place for these ideas, only in your dreams.

If we can have an F-4 dropping napalm we can have an A-1 dropping conventional bombs. Not much different than a one-salvo artillery strike, but it would look cooler.

Nope, we cant, F4 in a game literally flies by a straight line, just like he would in matinee sequence.
A-1 on the other hand requires a lot more coding, whole new vehicle simulation to be exact. Now lets head over to the beginning and remember that AMG spent good 1,5 years on getting helicopters in a game, which isnt easy peezy.
Can they make whole new vehicle simulation? Certainly. But it gives too low profit for a lot of effort besides they'd need to redesign their maps and make them a lot larger, which aint gonna happen.

You're talking about being able to fly them. I'm not.

Making it a commander call-in wouldn't be hard, though you'd only see A-1H skyraiders earlier in the war, and only from navy carrier Aircraft groups. Although for the ARVN... they were used... ;) They were numerous in Korea however. Literally just adding a new model is what it would take.

And a new sound.

Not to mention it would have to drop napalm. Any other ordinance would require more work.
