I got this idea from Saints and Soldiers and I just tried it recently with my K98 and it does work, not by much though. Doing this would make it take longer to switch weapons since it'd take longer to sling your weapon over your shoulder.
Slinging it over your shoulder a la Brothers in Arms would indeed be pretty cool. However, way back in the early mod days, weapons did have slings, but they were removed because they were too many polys and were slowing down the game, and removing them allowed TWI to make the beautiful hand models they have now. Perhaps with the recent graphical advances in the engine, it could be possible to make slings and retain decent FPS, though.
it wasnt done too much in close combat.....mainly for medium to longer ranges because you needed to be more accurate..........
from experience........id only use a sling in prone depending on the range or if im doing precision shooting........sitting and kneeling yes, standing NEVER.....
