Why new maps aren't used?

There are community made maps out there. Like the topic says, could someone explain why the community made maps aren't used? There are some butovo 24/7 servers, but why there are no other than those 7 (?) official old maps used in the most servers.

Why not put Ogledow or other maps among the TWI made maps in the servers?
They're not good enough?
They do not work?
If they don't work in RO2 is it because of the maps or because of RO2?
If the reason we can't get any new maps is because the SDK stuff does not work I think that is the area where TWI should concentrate their resources and fix those issues, not in making different mods (with one new map).

This is a question probably asked and answered before, so if you are insulted that I wasted your valuable time not searching through the threads I apologize. I just don't understand why we're not playing those new nice-feeling wide area maps that are made but still only play those few old maps.

OP, I hope you don't mind that I am "hijacking" your thread ;) but I feel that this is sth also interesting for you.

Last saturday, I had the honor to try several custom maps with a bunch of other guys (like 10 people in total).
Thanks to community member {sBc} HORSE><> we organized a gathering to test some of the community maps out there and we are planning to get this on more regularly on the {sBc} server. We played the following maps: Coldsteel v5, Die Bresche and Univermag.
Thanks to the awesome tool from Lord Gleedo, it's actually very easy to get all custom made maps rather quickly. Please see below link:

All three maps are beauties. Coldsteel v5 is basically the most advanced one so far, with minor bugs (like cover system), but it's well playable. Die Bresche is still lacking some details (imho) and might need to rebuild the capzone as they sometimes make no real sense. But I can imagine it having great gameplay with more players on it. Loads of long-distance shooting are offered.
Univermag is awesome and together with Coldsteel is pretty far in development and appears to have tough battles.

BUT, we would need more players willing to spend time downloading the maps and test them. Plus, I knkow TWI is working on it, the server crashes while running custom maps need to be fixed.

I'd like to encourage everybody to give those maps a chance and don't get frustrated with server crashes while playing custom maps. It's worth the effort and you will be the ones knowing the maps earlier than most of the other players.

If you are interested in trying custom maps, join this steam group:

Also, feel free to contact me or other players in that group should you need some guidance on map installation or what not. Most of the guys in that group so far I know since RO, some even from the mod days and I can assure you: everybody is nice and helpful.
We all just want to play the game and enjoy it. So let's get it on!

The Univermag is the only custom map which crashes the server, and will do so every time, that's why it is no longer available for download from the original source, BoH-Rekrut may try to fix it when the SDK problem has been identified and fixed.
All the other custom maps work well apart from the problems you already mentioned.
I recommend that you guys also try out Ogledow and Arad B2 which have no problems at all, apart from the lack of half-tracks, and their is also a tanks only version of Arad B2 available.:IS2:

I can't talk for everybody in that group but be assured that I do have all available custom maps installed on my computer (thanks again for Lord Gleedo's tool, which can't be said often enough ).
Arad and Ogledow were 2 of my TOP 5 maps of RO.
Last saturday we decided to stick with the 3 above mentioned maps, since it took us quite some time to download them and to get everybody ready.
Next time should be quicker and a bunch of guys will be prepared already.

Eh? Pain in the arse? Doesn't sound that hard.
It is when you take into account that their are at least 6 custom maps that may have to be recooked, 6 custom maps that server admins have to download to their desktop or wherever, + 6 sets of server files, up load them to the game server, then upload the 6 sets of client files to the redirect, change the server.ini to take account of the new beta numbers, and who says the maps will even work after being recooked.
So yes...it is a right pain in the arse.:IS2:
Player numbers are so low at the moment, that very few people even play the customs, so sometimes you have to think is it even worth putting custom maps on the server, coz the minute you do people leave, and don't come back coz they can't be bothered waiting on the map downloading (if it does at all)

Only the map author has to recook them. So just nuke the old ones and wait for the map authors to recook their maps?

I think the beta will result in an update for the game.
Together with the search and I hope a solution for the known
problems with custom maps some changes will be needed.

So probably to make them work custom maps will require
some minor changes and a recook by the map author.

Until we know how and what to be done take the time to
polish these maps. The present situation ask a lot of patience
from the people working on their custom maps as all they want is
there "baby" to be played.
