Not sure if TWI will ever come back to the Ostfront for an RO3, but here is a suggestion if they do:
Procedurally-generated maps. Specify general map mechanics (i.e. number of objectives, terrain, etc) and then randomly generate buildings and other objects
Probably would be a lot of effort to make sure such maps are balanced, but I think it would greatly increase the longevity of the game!
For example, use a campaign system as it is implemented in RO2 now (but at the scale of the entire Eastern Front?). Each territory has a preset "map style", such as steppe grassland for tank combat, Stalingrad/Leningrad/etc for urban infantry combat, or Moscow/Tula for snowy forests.
What could change with each random map is the location of choke points, camping / sniper / MG spots, tank cover, climate/season, vehicles/weapons (based on year) etc.
This would also lessen the effect of experience as everyone would have to study the map a little. Perhaps there could be an option to save the layout of the map.
