Also very annoying, when you click on a thread, the first page of the thread is loaded and not the last with all the new replies.
that's how Forums tend to work.
  • clicking on the primary link to a Thread goes to Page 1.
  • going to the last post can be done by clicking the timestamp under the name of who made the last post.
  • going to the first unread Post by yourself can be done by clicking the arrow inside the circle, bubble, thing. (which is how you did it previously on this Forum anyways)
being able to skip to a certain page from the Forum Section is missing, however.

with the title in the url it is best for search engines.

indeed.

One of the basic rules of design is to never use pure black and pure white colors.

generally true, however it isn't pure Black depending on where you're talking about, technically. the background of the entire page is 0,0,0 but the background of posts is technically 4,4,4.
:^)

more seriously, a very dark gray rather than almost black, sure. (and again that's a lot of red)

Well maybe, but with the old forums you could choose if you wanted to open the first or last page of a thread. Going to the newest post is awkwardly clumsy at the moment. Also I never got why every forum has the page selection only at the bottom of a thread.

And white writing on black background, literally makes my eyes hurt. Not liking the wip-ness of the forum at all.

looks like URL's are displaying as the same color as the rest of the text, meaning they'll be hard to find.
i guess colors not being quite as extreme to each end of the spectrum would help with that.

inversely, Black Text on a White background makes my eyes hurt. because my entire monitor is lit up like a christmas tree. the entire thing is lit up as bright as it can go.
even on my previous Monitor that was before the age of LED backlighting, i still felt the same way, despite the more 'mundane' brightness of Fluorescent backlighting.

for tracking the attention of humans, it makes sense for more important page content to be a brighter color than backgrounds and unimportant parts.
our eyes are naturally drawn towards brighter colors. so the text being the lightest shade on the entire page, makes sense on a Website. that doesn't mean it needs to be 255,255,255 on top of 0,0,0 - absolutely not.
this is also why Advertisements have highly saturated, bright flashing colors. because that gets the most attention, is most likely to draw eyes to, Et Cetera.

Maybe having a good looking theme in these current colors can be a better starting point, it is affordable for a company like TWI http://www.bluepearl-skins.com/forums/store/ for example

Then you modify it to change little things instead of creating a whole theme. Just my two cents but seeking for a good theme then modifying it would be better. Maybe paying a company to create a custom forum theme could be a good option ;)
