There's another documentary, 'Ulysses S. Grant: Warrior', which will be broadcasted this Monday, January 10 at 9PM EST on PBS (check local listings).


There's a large exhibit at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. about the American Civil War currently on display.

Hehe very true. I'm Southern born but disavow any connection to that foul area :p.

Now I just tell people I'm from San Francisco, LA, or NYC, depending on my mood.

I hope they succeed again and "the north" lets them this time. They can go back to the 19th century, the rest of us can move on.

Yes, you did derail the thread NoxNoctum. And in the process needlessly insulted a lot of forum members and a large segment of the US population.

In response I could say something as equally as arrogant as:
"Personally, I'm sure I speak for a lot of us when I say we're glad you took your high and mighty *** away from here. We're better for it." But then that would prove me to be just as obtuse as you.

I mean really, what is/was the point of that narrow minded comment? Surely you don't plan to use the excuse that because you were born below the Mason-Dixon line you were naturally inbred and born ignorant?


Sorry but that kind of talk just pisses me off. I was born in Louisiana, have lived in 4 states and 3 European countries. Lived 1/2 of my childhood in the States and 1/2 in Europe. Got drafted, put up with the bull**** of being called a baby killer when I came back and now in 2011 I have to listen to this kind of crap?

American Composer Aaron Copeland's (1900-1990) 'Lincoln Portrait' (Complete version, with variations on 'Camptown Races'), with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

Copland finished Lincoln Portrait in April 1942; the music was written as a patriotic piece during World War Two.

The first performance was by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on 14 May 1942.

I love your appreciation for history Gamburd. I have no family connection to the Civil War being the great-grandchild of European immigrants, but having been born and raised in Florida with a couple of years living in Virginia, I do occasionally go through a Civil War phase out of an interest in those states. Truly a terrible conflict that I hope our nation never sees again.

Jesus, even you've got it wrong.

The first blow of the War of Northern Aggression was struck on 9 January 1861. The anniversary of that was several months ago. The stuff that happened in April 1861 is just sort of whatever - blah, blah, blah.
