I'll Show You Mine If You'll Show Me Yours (Part Deux)

Amazing stuff guys. Baz I had no idea that was your site. I spent a good hour the other day drooling over those pictures, especially the MG34 section. Can't imagine the thousands of dollars there.

As a nub, heres my extremely humble and nubish collection with correspondingly crappy pics:

My beat up No4 Mk1 which I can't get to group...yet and some accoutrements:

Funds are tight at the moment but my next gun will probably be a Garand . Or a K98. Or maybe a K31. Or an SMLE. Or even a nicer No4. Umm..probably the Garand.

What exactly are parts kits? I was looking at gun websites and some have PPSH41 parts kits for sale. Are these parts kits all the parts minus the receiver? Or are they dummy guns? Could you make a parts kit into a working submachine gun by buying a working receiver?

Edit: Ok part kits are all parts with a cut receiver so its not funtional. But could someone buy a working receiver and have it added to the ppsh41 to make it operational? Lots of $$$.

I am sure the goobermint would have thought of that. I would think to buy even just a functional automatic receiver you would need class III license, yes?

Some weapons - like the PPSh-41 and MG-42 - were full-auto-only weapons. Therefore, they are illegal to own in the USA in an intact, as-manufactured form.

The parts come either receiver-less or with a torch cut receiver. Personally, those kits make me very upset, because they purposely destroy a piece of history.

However... if you look on gun auction sites like http://www.GunBroker.com you can find people selling "80% Receivers" for certain guns. TBH, I'm not 100% sure what the law is regarding those, but apparently they partially create a receiver from scratch. They then sell you the part, and if you're handy enough with metal and mill tools you can finish it off and have a working gun. Keep in mind, if you create a 100% finished receiver, for legal purposes you've created a firearm under U.S. law since the receiver is what is considered the actual firearm.

Here's an example of an 80% receiver for a Suomi M31 (the Finnish SMG that was used against the Russians in the Winter War):

Here's a site with some more info on 80% Receivers:

Something else to note, regarding the PPSh. At least one arms company attempted to semi-auto-ize a bunch of them and sell them as the "SR-41", but were unsuccessful. The guns were made under wartime conditions and to loose tolerances, so it was pretty impossible to make changes consistently.

Here's a review on that particular gun. It's a negative one, which sucks, because I would have bought one in a heartbeat. Your own working modified Pa-Pa-Sha - how cool is THAT?

That's alright bas, had been wondering what had happened. Some of the pictures seem to be a little cut off though.

Reckon you could just flip the 44 to semi, and tell the government, that you really promise not to use it as an auto

Next on the list to buy is a semi-auto MP-44, there's one for sale in a shop down the line but they're asking too much for it.

Bas I do worry that perhaps you live in a shed and eat only tinned beans to be able to afford all these weapons. Please reassure me that this is not the case!

It's not that bad, you have to remember that I've been collecting for 10+ years. Its all a matter of priorities, I don't waste as much money on booze, boats, cars and stereo gear as many others do. Spread out over 10 years the cost is quite reasonable.

Not having any kids, a good income and a girlfriend with a good income all helps too.

Sigismund, nice gear you have there!
