Cool Mods you Should be playing

A cool HL2 episodic SP mod - supposed to have 3 chapters, the second one just got released:

http://www.planetphillip.com/posts/mission-improbable-parts-1-and-2-half-life-2-ep2/

It's pretty fun, the presentation and pacing are rather good and there's even some decent voice-acting - nothing special, but it guides you through the story just fine. The map design is awesome though, and the attention to detail is on the level as well - feels like you're playing a Valve map pack. =)

Not a mod that you should play but one you should definitely play WITH:
Aeneas's excellent Dutch Army units, version 5.2 :)

UT Engine - Jailbreak
Is kinda like CTF except that you are the flag. Get killed, you wander in jail. Break out, Fight for Freedom in the Arena or be freed by your team members. If everyone is in jail, you loose the point. X points wins the match.

This one is available on all UT engines, and done in almost retail quality.

UT2k4 - Alien Swarm
Switches UT2k4 into a bug hunt. Navigate your team solo via short commands or play online. Beware as there is FF, and there is no option to turn that one off here. Aside from this, you get a tactical top-view shooter in high quality. The team is currently building a standalone version, I think it was Source Engine.

Just started HL2's campaign with SMOD Tactical (go here for the post May update fix). It adds a ton of realism, and is great fun so far. Unfortunately, some parts are hardly beatable without godmode on. HL2 was simply not designed for weapons which do so much damage (the terrible balance may be due to the May update, currently the mod is being updated to make it compatible again).

The Dark Mod for Doom3!
If anyone's ever played Thief 1 or 2 the mod's gameplay is similar to those classics. If you haven't played those games you don't know what you missed! The game play is based around a medieval universe where you are a thief who's goal is to steal loot from a variety of places and people. It's an immersive stealth game. It's all singleplayer but has over 40 fan made missions and the community is still producing missions at a fast rate and the mod authors are still continually updating the mod. So it's very alive. The production values are very high, give it a check!

I'm am truly very surprised that no one has mentioned old goldsrc mods in any great length, because those were the golden years and mods of games.

In no particular order, you should have and be playing all of these:

The Wastes -

Fallout as an fps (before that abortion of Bethesda's) minus the RPG elements. Nuff said.

The Specialists -

THE action movie game. It has everything from Tequila's dual 92fs to Castor Troy's golden colts to a recreation of the lobby scene from The Matrix and a fully fleshed out Kung Fu system that makes most fighting games look like casuals.

Brainbread -
www.moddb.com/mods/brainbread
You, your friends, and a few dozen guns against the legions of undead. I'm surprised that the devs didn't sue Valve for copyright infringement.

Jaykin Bacon Source -
Not actually on the source engine, but this mod rips from every game and mod you've ever played and does it with flair and panache. Probably the ultimate party game for your friends on goldsrc it has everything from Metal Gear Solid's stealth box (complete with witty commentary) to Castor Troy's Golden Colts, ripped from The Specialists. Unfortunately, the version on moddb is outdated, so you'll have to do some google-fu for this one (version 5.4).

There are also plenty of other awesome mods such as The Battlegrounds, Pirates Vikings and Knights, Hostile Intent, Snow War, Zombie Panic, The Ship, and many, MANY more, but those should be enough to start you off.

While a lot of these mods are pretty dead me and a couple dozen friends play games every couple nights, so if you want to get in on the action or are just having problems installing any of the mods shoot me a message.

Warning nostalgia heavy:
Ahhhhh TS... I remember getting so into that game I'd be sweating when I finally was killed. I'd kick *** with the golden colts, clicking both left and right at the same time, I think it was called freemode that let you fire two shots at the same time. The almost non existent cap on pistols made them so awesome, I'd click as fast as I could barely having my hand on the mouse so hard that my mouse had black worn out lines on the left and right mouse buttons. I always loved how the bullets went where you were aiming and the recoil was all directed to the screen movement rather than this crappy fake recoil realism like in CS we see so often now where you have no real control. I wasted thousands of hours on that game and to this day nothing has even come close to its awesomeness. It was one of the rare games where you'd use weapons just because they were fun and not to win. For example pumping an automatic shotgun or the ruger. Ohhh and slowing the deaths of people by fuing them back up when they were doing their fall animations was always my favorite way to add insult to injury XD (ps: 2.1 will always be > than 3.0)

Does FDF have an excellent ww2 component again? That's the part I loved about the first FDF for Operation Flashpoint. The present-day FDF part was admittedly very well made, but a) it ran like crap on my pc and b) as far as present day units go I preferred the eighties default units of the vanilla game.

Invasion 44 started out as a Flashpoint mod too, didn't it? I think I remember and unfinished mod of that name for the game.
Would you say it's worth getting Operation Arrowhead solely for this mod? If yes, why? What's so good about it?
