Title of cancelled game

I am trying to remember the name of a cancelled FPS that was announced a long time ago.

For some reason I have always that the game was named "They" or "Them"

It was an FPS that let you customize your weapons and change the texture on them in real time. You also fought against aliens.

There were some e3 demos.

One of the most Iconic screenshots was a piece of concept art that looked like a large tower with a orange glowing center in it. (The tower looked around the same size as the citadel from HL2)

Does anyone know what game I am talking about? I spent a couple hours looking it up to no avail.
