Forum Rules

  • Items changed, or highlighted for future attention, on 20 July 2013 are highlighted in yellow.

Global Rules
  • Forum moderators may or may not be Tripwire Interactive staff members, but either way, please respect them, as they are the authority of the forums. Speaking to them with intentional spite will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of your forum privileges.
  • Any decisions made by any member of staff or moderator are final and not subject to discussion. Doing so may result in a ban from the site. The owners of Tripwire Interactive Forums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason, as well as to remove access to the forums for any individuals with or without warning for breaches of the rules.
  • If you have a complaint regarding another user, PM the appropriate moderators, or if you have an administrative issue, [RO]schneidzekk.

General Behaviour
  • Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.
  • Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention either in the title or the body of the post.
  • Up to 10 emoticons are allowed in a post
  • Political discussions are prohibited.
  • Flaming - We do not tolerate abusive, malicious, personal attacks. You will be banned if you persist in this behavior.
  • Trolls - Anyone deliberately antagonizing other forum users by posting 'flame bait' type messages is not welcome. You will be banned (possibly without warning depending on the severity of the issue) if you persist in this behavior.
  • Personal insults (directed at anyone) will result in a ban. If the behavior is not corrected, it will be made more permanent.
  • Constructive criticism is welcome. However keep in mind we (and other forums goers) may not agree with you. If you can't keep the conversation civil, you will be removed from the forums.
  • The use of hyperbole, one liners, and images as part of a forum debate is likely to get you infracted. You have many ways to participate and be a constructive part of this community, even when you disagree.
  • To make the highlighted bits above 100% clear to everyone, the following WILL NOT BE TOLERATED:
    1. Personal attacks, insults, antagonism of any forum-goers, moderators or Tripwire Interactive staff.
    2. Name Shaming and Public "Witch Hunts" are also not allowed.

  • There has been too much in the way of abhorrent personal behaviors in the past. These will cease. It doesn't matter who started it or who reacted to it - it will all result in moderator action. If you have to indulge your hatreds, for whatever reason, go do it elsewhere - and do not try and drag our forum-goers over to enjoy your hatreds.
  • We understand that people have strong feelings about our games, what we do for a living and how we respond (or don't) to comments on the forums. We all aren't going to agree about everything. So, BE CIVIL in your disagreements!

  • DO NOT Transmit any message, information, data, text, software or graphic files, or other materials ("Content") that is unlawful (including illegal drug usage), harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, hateful or racially, ethnically, sexually or otherwise objectionable. This includes publicizing private information, such as individual's real names, IP addresses and anything else that might be used to identify them to the freakier members of the internet. This also means you may NOT publically share private communications (PM, email or anything else) without the original poster's permission.

Please use common courtesy, and enjoy using Red Orchestra's forums
[COLOR=darkred]Offensive material
The following is a list of some things that MAY be considered "offensive" by the moderators and the team. This is NOT an exclusive list and it does depend very much on context.

Crossing the line into "offensive" territory is likely to get you asked to change your name, sig or avatar or to withdraw/delete posts. This will be done politely by the moderators. If you refuse to comply further action WILL be taken once started, ultimately leading to banning from the forums.

A key point: please attempt to use your brains. What is mild humour to you may well be deeply offensive to others. While we have no intention of acting as politically-correct "thought police", we are on the lookout for those things that can cause offense and, in some cases, are actually still illegal in some jurisdictions.
  1. Names recalling notorious war criminals or personalities.
  2. Names recalling atrocities and war crimes in general, or units with particularly odious histories.
  3. Use of obscenities and expletives.
  4. Blatant racism, mysogynism or many other "ism"s.
  5. Use of symbolism and regalia recalling Nazism or Fascism; this does not include pics of soldiers who happen to have such symbols on their uniform, unless we feel this has been done to provoke. Please note that many Nazi symbols (including the Swastika) are still illegal in Germany and other countries and considered deeply offensive by many Europeans.
  6. Use of symbolism and regalia recalling Stalinism.
  7. On both the previous two, the moderators' views on the intention and impact of use of such symbols will be final - not yours. Please be understanding if you are advised to change something.
  8. In general, if a sig/avatar represents your allegiances in-game and is clearly "in part", it is likely to be fine; if the moderators feel you are trying to demonstrate unpalatable political allegiances, or to use it in an attempt to ridicule or provoke others you WILL be asked to change it. RO is NOT the place to make any extremist political statements of any kind.

So people get the idea, some examples that would be considered offensive, numbered as above:
  1. "Hitler", "Beria"
  2. "NKVD Blocking Detachment", "Einsatzgruppen"
  3. This one should be pretty obvious...
  4. So should this - and it includes calling all Germans "Nazis" and all Soviets/Russians "Commies". It got boring 50 years ago, so stop it.
  5. Use of swastikas, fasces, SS-runes and so on for the Axis.
  6. There is actually very little overt symbolism from the Stalinist era; the hammer-and-sickle isn't offensive per se.

A simple rule-of-thumb: many Europeans find Nazi symbolism of any sort offensive; many Americans still find Soviet symbolism offensive. Engage your brain before using.

Final Note: this is NOT open to debate, so please do NOT start whining and moaning if a moderator asks you to change something. They will advise at first, giving reasons, then, if you take no notice, they will step up the pressure through to banning.

Glad it's what you need. I don't have any KFMod V1 archives as it was post 2.5 when Alex and I started chatting online. Grateful for the offer of help. A few recommendations/subs on YouTube would be nice. Enjoy.

      Feedback Needed!

      Hello guys,

I am the main content creator for RageQuitters. There are 3 of us, so far. Myself who creates most of the website content and YouTube videos, my other buddy who works mainly on maintaining the website and my other buddy who churns out the in-depth hardware reviews.

We've been live since February 2015 and I think we've done quite well. Although we're not exactly setting the world on fire on YouTube, with 253 subscribers. The actual channel belongs to me, created back in 2010. I mainly used it just to capture gaming memories with buddies, I started to use it seriously at the same time the site went live.

Now, the reason for this post. A few people have suggested that we start up a Patreon campaign as 2 of us would love to do this as a career (the other guy is a wuss). We're fairly proactive in trying to seek out original content.

I'd love nothing more than to quit my day job (I work as a software engineer/Deputy) and start up something exciting, something I have a passion for.... games journalism/reviewer/collaborator.

Currently, my response to the people who suggest Patreon is "we simply don't have the audience numbers" - What i'd like is for you guys to take a quick look at the website and our YouTube channel - would it be something you'd invest in? If not, what do we need more/less of?

This isn't a begging post, this is just me, wanting to get some opinions from you. I'm 42 years old and sick of my day job. I want to do the games stuff, full time. Working 8 hours a day in an office doesn't give you much scope to churn out content.

Here's our website: - links to social media are at the top.

Thank you, we look forward to receiving your feedback.

P.S - We're now on Razer's hardware review list, so that's a massive deal for us.

Honest opinion, oh my you asked for it so here it is ...

Disclaimer: I just had a quick look, at some of your videos and at your website.

I don't think size doesn't matter for Patreon, it more depends on your community, are they into it? If your fans are willing to invest, Patreon could get you quite far with a small audience. And I am not 100% sure how Patreon works, but I think your supporters will want something in return T-shirts, exclusive content or ****. So keep that in mind.

Some ideas on what you can do:
        • get more subscribers, set yourself an achievable goal, like getting to 1000 subs within the next 3-6 months
        • maybe it would be smart to break your youtube channels into smaller subchannels (can be done with the same account), so people who are interested in reviews, don't get clogged up by Let's plays
        • put a subscribe button (watch more videos) at the end of each of your videos
        • look into promoting your channel, tell ALL your facebook friends (and your colleges should do the same) to like your rage quitter articles on facebook (all of them, always)
        • advertising on facebook is fairly cheap, maybe that is an option
        • do email newsletters
        • turn off the auto focus on your camera
        • I am not a fan of long rambling videos (especially in reviews), give them structure, make them more condensed, give a clear verdict at the end
        • how are you making money? I didn't see any ads on your website, at least some ads wouldn't hurt
        • Are you taking part in an affiliate program?
        • Listen to your fans/subscribers
        • unique content is always a plus, there is always someone who can offer a more insightful review or a more popular Let's play, perhaps you can do a show where you give your honest opinion about games/ a gaming topic, preferably bring a friend

I think hardware reviews are a good niche you could fill, I know they are hard to do (because they are expensive if not sponsernd) but if you do them make them special. I suggest you don't quit your day job before you are certain your "hobby" will pay for itself

Maybe I can think of more later.

That's my opinion, for whatever it is worth.

        Good luck
Peace has cost you your strength! Victory has defeated you! - Bane

Thank you Kettch. Thanks for your honesty, which is what we want. I have no intention of giving up my dayjob until i'm 1001% sure we can make something work. To be fair, this is just a pipedream and i'll likely just continue on my current path. It's still something i'm very passionate about.

All suggestions taken on board. I'll take a look at some things that can be fixed now and work on the other suggestions going forward. I'll speak with Paul (our hardware guy) and tell him about the focus on his phone (yes, phone, we can't afford snazzy cameras, yet. lol).

Again, thanks for your feed back, it really is appreciated.

          • #80
For a phone camera the picture and sound aren't too bad.

Came up with some more ideas
            • if you don't want to spend a lot of money on equipment maybe you can borrow it somewhere?
            • Check out the youtube creator academy, this should give you some ideas to make the most of the little resources you are working with right now, lots of tips on editing and shooting videos
            • The sound in your videos is fine, but in my opinion good sound quality is more important than perfect video quality, I would invest in good sound before doing 4K videos if you know what I mean
            • How hard is it to find rage quitters with google? It should be very easy if you haven't done it already optimize your site accordingly
            • Take pictures of the hardware you are reviewing, you have the chance to show features and "rough edges" of the hardware that are normally not visible on promo shots, and perhaps you know someone who has a good camera and knows how to use it
            • You can ask your community want kind of content they want, would they even bother to watch an unboxing?
            • If you are really shameless you could reach out to other youtubers and ask them for adivce, maybe they will even help you promote your channel
            • In your outro, additionally to the subscribe and watch more videos buttons, you could ask your viewers to support you on Patreon or turn off their adblockers for you but don't be to pushy, plain text and some nice (royalty free) music could do the trick
            • Almost 4,000 post and I have never used lists before, what a shame they are really useful

I am planning to get a new gaming mouse soon, if you want I could write up my thoughts as guest review so to say.

Kettch, thank you. You went out of your way to give us some sage advice and we all appreciate it. If you add me on Steam, we can chat more. gregs2k2.

Our resident hardware guru, TerminatorUK has created this:

Latest news and predictions, a face off between the 2 GPU giants. Interesting to see how AMD will react to Nvidia's beastly 10xx series cards. This article is being updated as more news becomes available.

Oh god, AMD has to really step up their game. Nvidia seems to be taking the spot light! I'm hoping to sport a 1080 soon, maybe in a year or 2. Just hope I can play some games if I plan to work full-time in the army. You guys better release some footage on Doom soon, it's out and I'm about to have a blast after it's done downloading!

Yep, I really want a 1080 but realistically, I'll probably get a 1070 in June. Will see how they're priced. 24mins to go until Doom unlocks for me and of course, we'll be posting some juicy in-depth footage of the campaign and Snapmap. Can't wait.
