3D & Animation How to make a new player model?

I am thinking of creating new player models for retail version of Killing Floor(Steam). I've searched around the forum a bit and have yet to find an answer. This thread came closest to what I needed but came to no conclusion: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=31006&highlight=player

This is the first time I have done any 3D modelling so this is all quite new to me but I plan to:

Create my own model and texture it

Make the model use existing player animations

Replace one of the player models with my model

I am thinking of using Blender as it is free, but I would like to know how I can approach doing this. Once I have the model and textured it, how do I define the joints on the model for it to be animated and how to import it into KF.

Thank you.

EDIT:

By the gods, a tutorial exists. It is in Japanese and the tutorial is for 3DSMax, but I should be OK with the former, will use the 30-day demo to play around with I guess :/

I'm making a custom character as well and am in the stage of getting it to compile correctly using braindead's The Stig as a template. I'm very new to modelling myself, to skin the actual mesh to the preanimated bones I chopped it up then stitched it back together with editable poly then applying mesh and weighting it.

I'm still trying to get this horrible monstrosity I've birthed in game to truly witness the horror.

It'd be pretty cool if you translated that article, since you're right about us English speakers being stuck without one.

The monstrosity that is Google Translate. I admire the people who code relentlessly and spend many man-hours getting a flawless and natural translation, but as far as translating Japanese is concerned it's just not good enough :/

The pictures in the article help greatly, but I will translate it bit by bit. Please bear with me as I am on an iPad, which doesn't have the best of key-input.

hi, thank you for introducing my tutorial.
well... maybe a following russian site will be helpful 'cause written in English!
http://***********.com/en/sozdanie-novoj-modeli-igroka-v-unreal-engine.html

actually my tut referred to that site

Well that's fantastic.

By the way, your tutorial was a godsend. I had no knowledge of 3DSMax beforehand and it was easy to follow.

I sucessfully got my character to replace Corporal Lewis using braindead's The Stig. If you still need help add me: http://steamcommunity.com/id/donotstruggle/

Now to get a custom first person model and voice...

Thanks. Maybe we can upload our work to Steam Workshop now with the new update. Nice to see Killing Floor get a major update plus a bug fix, since we haven't had an update for a while.
