DEDICATED WORKSHOP SUBSCRIPTION ERROR

Spoiler!
Spoiler!

Dedicated servers are no longer downloading content from Steam Workshop.
Ongoing problem since version 1069.....

This is a necessary tool for your game to be on Steam Protocol. There is a whole gaggle of community content that can't be used because you broke the system that was working. Fix this.

My current servers are Windows OS. I will bet you if it doesn't work for Windows the same goes for Linux. If there are any server operators running Linux feel free to chime in with your input.

Do you mind listing the steps you are taking when this issue occurs? We also need to know if the server runs on the same machine that the game is being played on and what order you launch the server and the client to play on, if this is the case. Are you saying your server can never connect to the workshop, or it won't update content already on the server, or it won't give the content to players that join?
Edit:
I'd also like to know what specific logs those are you have a copy paste of in the OP.
Ran a few tests that resulted in a windows server grabbing new maps just fine.

The server is on Windows 2008 VDS machine from NFOServers.com No chance of startup procedure causing this problem. I have the info added in the .ini properly.
It doesn't download anything at all from the workshop due to missing manifest , source info for the workshop.

Here is another post claiming the same thing from https://forums.tripwireinteractive....17144-server-subscribe-to-steamworkshop/page3

Has anybody had problems with their dedicated server not being able to download from the steam workshop? I've got two servers, one hosted by bluefang, one on my own machine, and it seems neither one can download maps from the workshop right now. They always give errors like this -

If it's a new map I want to download, it says:

[0433.53] NetComeGo: Checking item 1363355300 for updates.
[0433.53] NetComeGo: Item state is 8.
[0433.53] NetComeGo: Downloading item 1363355300.
[0435.12] Warning: Warning, Workshop: Unable to download workshop item 1363355300

If it is a map I already have that it is checking for updates, it says:

[4934.76] NetComeGo: Checking item 752794391 for updates.
[4934.76] NetComeGo: Item state is 4.
[4934.76] NetComeGo: Downloading item 752794391.
[4934.97] Warning: Warning, Workshop: Unable to download workshop item 752794391

Given that this is happening both on a local machine AND on a professionally hosted machine, I'm guessing it's not something stupid like a port issue or the ever-popular "log out of steam" thing. Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks for the response I hope this gets cleared up quickly.

This has nothing to do with that map just another example of workshop content not downloading at all. It can be anything. I'm sure it has something to do with the inablilty to also batchexport and brewcontent from CmndLine as they all utilize workshop. The addition you guys tried adding in version 1070 for workshop in WebAdmin sounds like the culprit which was removed quickly.

Besides I'm sure you guys are on a network there directly connected to the Devs content.
Code:
[0024.74] Log: Executing Class UnrealEd.MakeCommandlet
[0024.75] Exit: Preparing to exit.
[0025.54] Exit: Object subsystem successfully closed.
[0025.54] DevDataBase: Spent 0.000007 seconds communicating with "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=production-db;Initial Catalog=EngineTaskPerf;Trusted_Connection=Yes;Connection Timeout=2" or "10.1.20.20"
[0025.54] Exit: Exiting.
We don't have access to 10.1.20.20 which is the error we are receiving when trying to use CmndLine 'kfeditor brewcontent -platform=PC' https://forums.tripwireinteractive....5734-commandline-editor-bug-error#post2325734
By the way, I did set the server up myself using Steam CmndLine not a 3rd party install by the GSP. I lease the machine exclusively, its a VDS which is on a password Admin account only I have access to. Yes its their hardware but all my content.
*I have my fingers crossed* this gets fixed.

QA will be looking into it. BTW the tests were done by Hazardous Monkey on his home machine on live builds, a vanilla server the way any other player would set it up. It hasn't gotten to QA doing testing, yet. But yes, thank you very much for the report and details within.

OK I cleaned my KF 2 server folder and Deleted two folders before adding item: I removed:

/KFGame/Cache/
/Binaries/Win64/steamapps

Then I added the workshop item to KFEngine and started server, here is what I see in my main server log /KFGame/Logs/Launch.log (I filtered to only show line with NetComeGo)

[0010.40] NetComeGo: Checking item 906870682 for updates.
[0010.40] NetComeGo: Item state is 0.
[0010.40] NetComeGo: Downloading item 906870682.
[0029.22] NetComeGo: Checking item 906870682 for updates.
[0029.22] NetComeGo: Item state is 4.
[0029.22] NetComeGo: Downloading item 906870682.
[0029.54] NetComeGo: No update available for item 906870682
[0088.98] NetComeGo: Checking item 906870682 for updates.
[0088.98] NetComeGo: Item state is 4.
[0088.98] NetComeGo: Downloading item 906870682.
[0089.38] NetComeGo: No update available for item 906870682
[0149.03] NetComeGo: Checking item 906870682 for updates.
[0149.03] NetComeGo: Item state is 4.
[0149.03] NetComeGo: Downloading item 906870682.
[0149.43] NetComeGo: No update available for item 906870682

And I checked the KFGame/Cache folder and it has a folder with the item number, and a bunch of subfolder and files (it seems to be some kind of a mod or something, not a map)

I do not have a Workshop log in Binaries/Win64 folder for Linux server (it may never had one I'm not sure I know I already saw this log file, but I used to run the KF 2 servers under WINE before they released Linux servers so I'm not sure if it is a new Linux bug or if Linux servers never had Workshop Logfile..)

So for me it works on Linux even after wiping all folders related to workshop.

I did not try a full reinstall but I don't think it will change anything as the wiping I did before starting server should have put server in original state.

oldschool did you try a full reinstall in a new folder only to check if your current installation has no issue? Sometimes SteamCMD can **** things up and maybe you have a corrupted file somewhere that even file validation can not see (I already had this issue and needed to remove a whole folder for the system to detect anomaly.. it was long time ago but pretty sure SteamCMD can still **** things up sometimes). Maybe also a current workshop items made a mess in your files, I don't know but this is where I would start to troubleshoot, start fresh, see if similar issue on fresh server.

I have done some investigation on my own. I run Windows 10 on my client machine. I installed a server and set it up for workshop. Everything works fine. :)

I then tried the same thing on my VDS machine running windows server 2008R2. I even went as far as deleting SteamCmnd directory and redownloading it for the server install. Installed the new server, set it up for workshop. No dice. Same log files as above. It did not work. :(

I then replaced the files from the WinServer2008R2 with the working files from the Windows 10 installation. On the same directory level as KFGame. I moved steamapps,Engine,Binaries,_CommonRedist. I then started the server and low and behold the server connected to the workshop and downloaded the item. I even stopped the server, deleted the new Cache folder on the same level as BrewedPC within KFGame, Restarted the server and it worked fine by redownloading the subscribed item.

I will ask you this then...Is it possibly a SteamCmnd repository issue regarding the installation files for KF2 dedicated server?

One more question Is the batchexport option of KFEditor working properly, disabled, or not working at all? Thanks for your time. I hope this helps anyone else in the future that might run into the same problem. :)
