Forum Rules

CHANGES
  • Items changed, or highlighted for future attention, on 20 July 2013 are highlighted in yellow.

Global Rules
  • Forum moderators may or may not be Tripwire Interactive staff members, but either way, please respect them, as they are the authority of the forums. Speaking to them with intentional spite will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of your forum privileges.
  • Any decisions made by any member of staff or moderator are final and not subject to discussion. Doing so may result in a ban from the site. The owners of Tripwire Interactive Forums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason, as well as to remove access to the forums for any individuals with or without warning for breaches of the rules.
  • If you have a complaint regarding another user, PM the appropriate moderators, or if you have an administrative issue, [RO]schneidzekk.

General Behaviour
  • Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.
  • Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention either in the title or the body of the post.
  • Up to 10 emoticons are allowed in a post
  • Political discussions are prohibited.
  • Flaming - We do not tolerate abusive, malicious, personal attacks. You will be banned if you persist in this behavior.
  • Trolls - Anyone deliberately antagonizing other forum users by posting 'flame bait' type messages is not welcome. You will be banned (possibly without warning depending on the severity of the issue) if you persist in this behavior.
  • Personal insults (directed at anyone) will result in a ban. If the behavior is not corrected, it will be made more permanent.
  • Constructive criticism is welcome. However keep in mind we (and other forums goers) may not agree with you. If you can't keep the conversation civil, you will be removed from the forums.
  • The use of hyperbole, one liners, and images as part of a forum debate is likely to get you infracted. You have many ways to participate and be a constructive part of this community, even when you disagree.
  • To make the highlighted bits above 100% clear to everyone, the following WILL NOT BE TOLERATED:
    1. Personal attacks, insults, antagonism of any forum-goers, moderators or Tripwire Interactive staff.
    2. Name Shaming and Public "Witch Hunts" are also not allowed.
    3. Breaches of confidentiality and privacy of any sort.
    4. Any form of racism, bigotry or attacks on race, creed or color.

  • There has been too much in the way of abhorrent personal behaviors in the past. These will cease. It doesn't matter who started it or who reacted to it - it will all result in moderator action. If you have to indulge your hatreds, for whatever reason, go do it elsewhere - and do not try and drag our forum-goers over to enjoy your hatreds.
  • We understand that people have strong feelings about our games, what we do for a living and how we respond (or don't) to comments on the forums. We all aren't going to agree about everything. So, BE CIVIL in your disagreements!

DO NOTs

This includes publicizing private information, such as individual's real names, IP addresses and anything else that might be used to identify them to the freakier members of the internet. This also means you may NOT publically share private communications (PM, email or anything else) without the original poster's permission.

    Avatars are disabled.
  • All signatures should not exceed the following size limits, you can have both text and images
  • - For text signatures: 4 lines normal size, 8 lines small size and up to 100 chars per line. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed. (Blank lines count as lines.)
  • - For images in signatures: 1 image up to 400 pixels wide, 150 pixels tall and 100kb in size plus 2 lines normal size text and up to 100 chars per line
Netiquette: Written text has no inflection, and, as such, you should be careful how you write your messages as interpretation will vary from person to person. Please take advantage of the built-in emoticons to add such expression to your words. Please remember the golden rule: to treat other forum users the way you would like to be treated. Please use common courtesy, and enjoy using Red Orchestra's forums
Offensive material
The following is a list of some things that MAY be considered "offensive" by the moderators and the team. This is NOT an exclusive list and it does depend very much on context.

Crossing the line into "offensive" territory is likely to get you asked to change your name, sig or avatar or to withdraw/delete posts. This will be done politely by the moderators. If you refuse to comply further action WILL be taken once started, ultimately leading to banning from the forums.

A key point: please attempt to use your brains. What is mild humour to you may well be deeply offensive to others. While we have no intention of acting as politically-correct "thought police", we are on the lookout for those things that can cause offense and, in some cases, are actually still illegal in some jurisdictions.
  1. Names recalling notorious war criminals or personalities.
  2. Names recalling atrocities and war crimes in general, or units with particularly odious histories.
  3. Use of obscenities and expletives.
  4. Blatant racism, mysogynism or many other "ism"s.
  5. Use of symbolism and regalia recalling Nazism or Fascism; this does not include pics of soldiers who happen to have such symbols on their uniform, unless we feel this has been done to provoke. Please note that many Nazi symbols (including the Swastika) are still illegal in Germany and other countries and considered deeply offensive by many Europeans.
  6. Use of symbolism and regalia recalling Stalinism.
  7. On both the previous two, the moderators' views on the intention and impact of use of such symbols will be final - not yours. Please be understanding if you are advised to change something.
  8. In general, if a sig/avatar represents your allegiances in-game and is clearly "in part", it is likely to be fine; if the moderators feel you are trying to demonstrate unpalatable political allegiances, or to use it in an attempt to ridicule or provoke others you WILL be asked to change it. RO is NOT the place to make any extremist political statements of any kind.

Examples:
So people get the idea, some examples that would be considered offensive, numbered as above:
  1. "Hitler", "Beria"
  2. "NKVD Blocking Detachment", "Einsatzgruppen"
  3. This one should be pretty obvious...
  4. So should this - and it includes calling all Germans "Nazis" and all Soviets/Russians "Commies". It got boring 50 years ago, so stop it.
  5. Use of swastikas, fasces, SS-runes and so on for the Axis.
  6. There is actually very little overt symbolism from the Stalinist era; the hammer-and-sickle isn't offensive per se.

A simple rule-of-thumb: many Europeans find Nazi symbolism of any sort offensive; many Americans still find Soviet symbolism offensive. Engage your brain before using.

Final Note: this is NOT open to debate, so please do NOT start whining and moaning if a moderator asks you to change something. They will advise at first, giving reasons, then, if you take no notice, they will step up the pressure through to banning.

I might be able to clarify this, as I've had a similar mindset sometimes. In KF1, it was possible to get all of the DLC - helping, supporting TW - and not empty your wallet on 'chance' items from crates. As a collector, it was very satisfying to have achieved everything: All achievements, all perk levels, all unlocks, all DLC.

This new system, especially the randomized crates, are a particular kind of hell to a great many in your fan base. This kind of thing specifically is why there was so much various backlash concerning the Foster DOSH! skin, and to a lesser extent, the original Harchier Spebbington character in KF1.

People like to be able to complete things. People like to know what they are getting when they spend money. People do not like throwing their money at random chances in an attempt to get one single thing they want.

    *EDIT - Addendum*
Take one glance at my profile and it's obvious that I play both KF and TF2. Both systems work for me to an extent, but I vastly prefer KF1's DLC model. Trading in TF2 is a royal PITA, and I can say I've only opened a few crates. All of my best stuff in TF2 I got by trading or spending money to get what I wanted directly, and not by gambling on keys and crates.

I got the PCGamer at newsstand price over a year ago because I didn't want to miss a thing in KF2 after I got so much enjoyment out of KF1. I also got the Deluxe version of KF2. I will spend money - but I like to know what I'm getting for it.

Cosmetics are fine in my opinion. But please, please, please, please don't release any op weapons packs like in KF1. ex. Musket, flares, scythe and the rising storm tommy.

No, I bought KF2 thinking I'm going to enjoy this 100%, I'll buy everything Tripwire sets up for sale because I love this game. Now they are making me tremble. With crates, key and trading it's now nearly impossible to define what is "everything" and certainly impossible for the average player to collect every bit of content.

Oh and for the record, crates and keys was NEVER the case with Killing Floor before.

Well I can certainly understand the issue with random crates. I'll just never personally be able to get into the completionist mindset. I don't even try that completionist stuff. On that note, is the issue that you can only get msytery crate dealies or is that just one of the things you can get. Coz in TF2, for example, you randomly found crates, but you could also just buy the thing you wanted.

Its kinda like a lottery which item you get.
With DLCs you could at least see what you will get and that would be the right way in my opinion.

I accept DLC, but never pay for lottery crates, sorry.
Read the thing, there is an in game store where you can buy some skins. (and also steam market)

I have no big problem with the skin and USB stick drops in game, the main issue I have and do not like are the random crates. I'm fine with the whole USB stick thing, since if I don't want to go through all that stuff, I can just buy what I want on the market. But those crates, comon' Tripwire, there are better options available. You guys should make a pool now and see how we want out ''DLC''.

However, I'm going withhold further judgement until the update goes live and I see how the whole thing turns out, because they might change some stuff according to the feedback they see here.

I had a feeling this would happen. While I'm not against it as since some of the proceeds go towards the modders themselves (and that will give them incentive to do more content which can only be a good thing ), what I am against is PAYING for a ROLL to get a skin that I want and then ending up getting something that I probably don't want. 99% of the time. This random system is not for me.

I will happily pay for a skin I want (aka kf1 skin/weapon DLC) and support TWI/modders that way, rather then leave it to the roll of a dice.

Not much time left to change anything before the update, but we are listening. And, to those asking "why not get the game out of Early Access first?" - well, here's your answer. Feedback, leading to changes in what we are doing with this, changes to future plans. So that, when the game comes out of Early Access, it is actually finished, with core systems like this ironed out and working the way people want it to.

Wll if anything, they could have told us about THIS before release. I wouldn't have payed for the game if I knew this. I wouldn't have bothered AT ALL with the Dosh jacket fiasco if I knew it will be meaningless by the next update.

I did complete just about everything in KF1, but I learned about it too late to ever get Harchier Spebbington. AFAIK, only other things I didn't get were Mrs. Foster and the Rising Storm Tommy Gun.

The issue with TF2 is there is just so much crap. I liked being able to do and get (basically) everything in KF1. I play TF2, but I have to treat it as a completely different thing in my head - and that thing is something I don't like as much as what KF1 is in my head.

Musket was my favorite weapon in KF1. Dwarfs!? Axe was my second. Flares were my third. I even liked both ZED guns. Iunno... I like DLC. I don't mind crossovers or DLC. I just don't like microtransactions and flooding the game with an overwhelming amount of total crap like what ails TF2.

HunBonus, that was my mindset going into KF2 as well. Got the DOSH! Jacket, Deluxe, and I even got Chivalry on sale so I could get the Zweihander. Now I don't know how to think about or treat KF2.

I will still play it and have fun with friends, but I don't believe I will enjoy it as much with microtransactions. We'll see.

                          Just making one thing clear:
Thank you, Tripwire. I love your games. I think you are doing a great job so far and your communication shows that you are doing Early Access right. KF2 is a blast to play, even in its current unfinished state.

That said, I have nothing but contempt for key+crate microtransactions, and I absolutely loathe exclusive or time-limited items in games. Anxiety is the most heinous tool you can use to make sales, and it is despicable. Please don't fall into that trap.

I feel like many people are throwing a hissy over this based on principal (because of what Payday 2 did) and not because they actually dislike it.

They actually took a couple of the better cues from CS:GO's loot system.

Many skins have a chance to drop just from playing the game, without having to spend a dime. They may be random, but such a feature is a necessity for a trading-based economy.

There are also some items that are not drops, or in crates, you can simply buy them outright from the store in the same way you bought skin packs in KF1. What you see is what you get.

Finally, there is a small percentage of skins that are locked behind the crates/USB drives exclusively, and these will likely be the rarest/most valuable. If you want these you can either gamble for them, or pay the asking price on the Steam market.

The big thing to remember here is that it's ALL COSMETIC. Just like in CS:GO, the skins are only there to make you stand out and look cool. Zero effect on gameplay. If you stop playing a good game forever just because they released cosmetic items with zero impact on gameplay, I feel sorry for you. You'll be missing out on all the future content, and this game is only getting better in my opinion.

I only speak for myself, but I really appreciate the communication and I understand and agree that now, in early-access, is the best time to implement things like this. Thank you.
