Default WWI Equipment (pics)

Heres the pictures that I promised i'd show. It was my great Granfathers WWI uniform and equipment that had been at my Grandpas for years. He let me take it hom the other day along with some other things

Helmet
Insignia hand painted on the side

Inside of the Helmet

Close up of the inside

Bag for the Gasmask

Great Grandfathers name along with what looks like his units number

Inside the bag, something that looks like an air canister all rusted out

I think these are socks rolled up

Taco hat!

The Gasmask, all scrunched up after being in the bag for all those years

Inside veiw of the gasmask

Thats most of the stuff that I brought home, still more to come later.

Very nice! Stuff like that is very important to preserve! I can't see the wrinkled shirt though.

Why is it that 4channers never know what the second to last step is?

Because 4channers are never successful.

Awesome stuff man. Did you get any stories out of your grandfather while you were over there? Any that are sharable? Ehh, ehhh? *nudge nudge*

Just a suggestion, though, find out what to do with that metal can. It looks like it actually broke off (in part at least) from the end of the mask, so I'd guess that saving it is beyond question, but you probably want to put it in something (another bag or such) to keep the rust from setting in to ruining the cloth of the bag. Of course it's all mil-spec stuff so it's hardy, but if you want to preserve it for the ages it would hurt to do something with it. If someone here doesn't come forward with knowing how to handle it (because I full admit it's beyond me! ) maybe check with some reinnactor or WWI/II collector forums or groups?

Really, that is some great stuff. Awesome

Didnt get any stories But by looking at the insignia on the helmet I found out that he was in the 78th infantry division. Googled that and found out what campaigns he was in, though I forgot what they were already.

Your right about the gasmask, you can tell it broke of at the end of the tube, didnt really want to touch the cannister though. I was thinking, I need a manaquin head or something to put the gasmask on, so I can tell what it should have actually looked like instead of all messed up like it is now.

More pics

first aid kit (little blurry in the pic so you cant read it)

The Gasmask cleaner, still has instruction clearly on it

Food tin, I think

His coat

Units insignia stitched on the shoulder

Thats all for my collection, but I still have my Grandpas WWII Navy uniform if you want to see that

Your lucky to have stuff with Provenance. Especially stuff that's from family. Wish I could get my uncle's sabre. Unfortunately some NKVD bastard probably has it hanging on his wall.
