i don't know how long it is for sure, but the sight on the tip of the barrel definately looks not of the era. also i can't find a date anywhere on this thing, just a bunch of mis-matched serial numbers.

So there is no number here? This would at least give you a receiver build date.

I finally got to shoot my AK47 last weekend (it gets very hot here through the summer) and I can't believe what an amazing firearm it is. Recoil is light and feels good, very controllable in rapid fire. I had a few failure to feeds but I switched to a different magazine and it fixed the problem.

I love my AK47

I just purchased this matching K98 from a member at another web site. It's a 1937 S/27 (ERMA). The handguard has a different serial number, but given the condition of the rest of the stock I imagine it was repaired at some point during the war by a German arsenal. Once I get my C&R address updated it's all mine:

a funny thing wound up in the back of my truck today:

whoever put it in there was smart and remembered to put in 500 rds of 7.62x39 and to lock the truck as well... (ah, damn, must've been me... that would explain why I didn't have enough $$ for gas)

it's on my bench. Stock is cut for a blade, and, plus, its a rare Sino-Soviet (made by chinese w/ russian machinery and russian instruction in 1956) and they originally had blade bayonets...

joshuaC, I'd recommend a SKS any day of the week, fun to shoot, reliable, and cheap. Just don't get a Yugo- they don't have chrome lined barrels.

The one thing I have to say about not having a bayonet- it sure is light and more comfortable!

that means nothing... 97% of people shooting their SKSs are using non corrosive commercial ammo these days and with any surplus gun you want to inspect the bore

my 59/66 has only some minor frosting in the barrel from it's days of shooting corrosive when it was in a soldier's hands and it's bore is otherwise perfect... nice sharp lands and it's one of the most accurate of any SKS i've fired

Yeah I might pick one up sometime. It would be fun to shoot along with my AK.

I had an SKS at one point, I shot a box of ammo through it, it was ok, but just not my kind of rifle, and it didn't fit my collection :/

Looks great! What year is it? What arsenal? It could be the lighting but it looks like it has a hex receiver.
