the germans called it rattenkrieg for a reason.
1,Fighting on a field and shooting people 200m+ = OMGWTFBBQ SO HEROIC!!!
2,Fighting in a sewer in the most brutal combat possible, bullets wizzing by and a grenade explodes knocking you out.
As you lie with half your body deep in a mixture of blood, mud and human waste, you look around to see your comrades and all you see is pieces of flesh and guts sprayed on the tunnel walls with a leg next to you and with what appears to be the remains of your best friend.
As you are starting to get your hearing back after the overpressure the grenade gave you, you start to hear the loud talk of your enemies. You stay still waiting.
As they arrive and observe what the grenade did, some of them vomit, some of them just turn away in disgust and some just continue searching the dead. For them it became a daily routine already.
You in your last moments reach into your pocket and pull out a grenade. With the last bit of force that was left in your dieing body, you pull the pin and scream. The enemy scared to death looks at you and goes pale instantly after seeing the grenade in your hand. Some try to run, others know that its no use.
5 more young lives are lost in the sewers of Stalingrad.
Now tell me, who are the heroes?
