Default Crowdfunding assistance needed!

Here's one I am unashamedly biased about: http://www.crowdfunder.com/digitalroar/profile

Crowdfunder is a new take on the Kickstarter format, where the investments go into the company as a whole, rather than just towards a project. Crowdfunder are running an opening competition.

We know the guys from Digital Roar well, have watched, mentored and drunk with them on multiple occasions. They even stole one of our graphics coders a while back

But the serious pitch: they've been busting their nuts for "sweat equity" alone for a considerable time. They've also busted their nuts helping us trying to get some form of investments going into the games industry in the south-east, which has proved hard!

I'll stop rambling - please go take a look and offer your support! http://www.crowdfunder.com/digitalroar/profile

I guess I'm a little confused by this. Is this profit sharing? Or are you just literally supporting a company with your money instead of supporting their product in exchange for rewards?

Because this is kind of where I didn't want to see crowd-sourcing go: asking gamers to directly invest in companies. If there's a lack of accountability in the Kickstarter model, there's a black hole of it here. The fact Kickstarter is couched in an actual product that will be sold is the reason I support projects there. Were it basically a un-regulated form of raising capital, I'd have never gone near it.

Sorry for being a contrarian. Feel free to tell me what I've got wrong.

In this particular case, no-one is asking you to part with any money at all...

So we're supposed to give them high ratings and page views then, so the page of their companies within this idea/business pitching database looks more attractive to actual investors who browse it?

Just from the looks of it yes.

However they do have a solid demo / Game on their hands

Page views count for nothing - so you can go take a look without causing yourself any problem. They've pitched themselves in for the opening contest on the site. If they get into the top 10 (they are at about #4 when I last looked), they get a free entry into a pitching event out in LA and a possible win of $25K if they can get to #1.

You can take a look and, if you like what they are doing, you can "support" them - without it costing you anything. If you don't like, then don't support. We're just drawing attention to it!

So the "I would invest" doesn't actually require any sort of commitment?

If so I definitely will because I'm still waiting for something to surpass Freespace 2.
