Default [Characters] Russian Spetsnaz Players

How's it going. I made some stand alone players instead of replacements. Just a test to see how it all worked but decided to release it for you folks here.

Use Marco's ServerPerks V5

1. Open ServerPerksV5.ini using Notepad (or whatever you use)
2. Copy and paste these lines at the bottom of the document

CustomCharacters=Spetsnaz_Sharpshooter3
CustomCharacters=Spetsnaz_Demolition

3. Run a server with ServerPerksV5 active
4. Choose the characters in the pre-game lobby
5. PLAY.

Badass. Makes some of the mission maps we play laggy as hell though. That might be on our end anyway. xD Thanks for the release!

Now I'm going to deluge you with requests :

Can you make the French GIGN, UK SAS, and US Delta Force similar to those Modern FPS Warfare games?!

Or even zombie trooper versions of these guys would be awesome.

Better...much better. Do these replace the characters of KF or add them to the bunch when running serverperks? I ask cous ive been trying to find a way to actually replace chars in the game instead of adding them to the lot.

To make them replace the default characters, just edit the .upls.

First, backup your original .upls

Rename one of the .upls included into, for example, Lieutenant_Masterson.upl and put into your System folder. Replace if asked.

Open that .upl using Notepad and change the name to Lieutenant_Masterson.

Run KF. Voila. Lt. Masterson is now Russian.

These should work for dedicated servers. Its running through serverperks so it should force download the files, at least the textures and animations.

Yes but my question was if they would replace the ones that serverperks calls on, since ive been trying to find a way to replace TWI's chars for a while now. They seem to be baked in the serverperks.

I don't know then. You can try to edit the upl files to standard names

like Spetsnaz_Commando >>> Baddest_Santa on the server,

and it should force the client to use those textures,animations and meshes if he chosed Baddest_Santa.

Serverperks seems to force players to use whatever the server is set at, even if the client already has files with the same name. The good thing is the server files are in the cache, so it won't overwrite any of the clients original files.

I know players still play with regular KF models on your DS server and it takes away from the atmosphere sometimes but you're going to need a lot more models to replace all the standard models. Or just create a bunch of duplicate upl files with original KF file names and see if that will cover all the original models.

i have Marco's ServerPerks V5 on my server i put all the files in the server folder but wan i play on my server it dose not download any of the files my other mods do download to players but this dose not work can some one explain how to exactle install custom characters rather

I did follow the instructions it did not work anyway only if i had the files in my killing floor it would show up but other players cant download it and i did follow the steps carefully

I think like a lot of KF and UT mods, you need to specify the mod in your killingfloor.ini under [Engine.GameEngine] Serverpackages to point to this mod:

[Engine.GameEngine]

... goto the last line under this section and add:

Serverpackages=SpetsnazMod

Save the ini file, then restart the server and see if it works. Also, you should compress the textures so downloading would be faster for those users who did not install it already.

alright all worked out great only one thing could you link me to a thread or somthing that shows how to compress im realy noob-ish at this stuff

Extract and copy the 4 bat files into your Killing Floor\system folder where your server is.

Run the compress textures, then compress animations files. Wait a while and make sure you have A LOT of harddrive space. I'm talking GIGs of it.

It will compress ALL animations and textures on your server.

The compressed files will end with UZ2 extensions. Then the clients who connect to your server will physically download from the respective directories into their cache.

Or it should... You can check the server forum here if you need more info on setting up a dedicated long term use server, but the above should be good enough for a temp or listen server.

In the future, you might want to compress maps and sounds if you installed custom maps or mods with custom sounds and you are willing to let clients download it.

UPL's are not protected by killing floor or server perks so editing them to be replacements would work just fine. I used my Soldiers of Killing Floor pack on countless servers (Including yours) and it all works

Edit: Ah i see what you mean. nevermind then.
