Currently we have Action, Classic and Realism. In many ways the Realism mode is not necessarily more realistic than the Classic mode.
Perhaps it would be better to play around more with the naming that makes it more clear what the differences are. Why not have the following 3 modes: Action New Realism Classic Realism This indicates that both modes are aiming for realism but offer different flavours.

And in many more ways, Realism is more realistic. Again, subject to argument.
I'd rather keep them as they are now. Very very little ambiguity. Realism is the RO2 standard, Classic is the RO:OST standard, and Action mode is the more casual standard. Then don't forget that servers may be running custom modes with aspects of all three in there so the classification based on realism may be pointless. Besides, I've gotten used to the names now.

Names can be changed, but I think they are fine as they are now. There will be confusion anyway. There is more a need for a description summary of the different modes. Action mode is bla, crosshair, bla, classic is bla, slow, bla.
There wasn't much need for this before as there were only two modes and they were pretty similar. Now there is a new mode and each mode is being more and more different from each other. Maybe add a warning summary when joining a server with a mode you haven't tried before similar to the classic mode summary. Anyway a summary is needed for the modes now. |

Realism should stay as it is, or even be changed to standard.
Action Relaxed Standard Classic (Classic Realism) Something like that.

What a mess. You want new players to get in ? But those three modes make things getting so worse. I even couldn't explain to someone the differences with Classic mode that I only play (except for the retarded-action-mode-for-15-years-old-kid maybe).
Leave everything but the Classic mode. You can be sure every servers will only run this one when it will be available. Last edited by KaB; 04-27-2012 at 07:31 AM. |

I don't care about the names. I only care about Classic Mode and Classic Mode only. Far Cry 3 will be my Action Mode but that's another story. All these different modes have in general most likely caused fractions within the community. The cirka 10,000 players that was playing after release is since long filtered out. Its going to be interesting though to see how many people that will play all these different modes.
More modes wont make even 3/10 of them come back. Its been six months and people move on, so regarding accessibility and getting new players its most likely waste of time. Ro ost had flaws. A lot of flaws. It was far from perfect. But it was a simple game and that was the beauty of it. Sometimes a game is just a game. Last edited by Cyper; 04-27-2012 at 06:08 AM. |

It's fine the way it is now...action/realism/classic.
Don't change names to much, or even regular players won't know what they are playing anymore... let alone new players would. |

I think names should stay as they are, if only to avoid creating any more confusion. I wouldn't be worried with names themselves, but with explaining content of each game mode and pointing out that there are two other game modes to be played, to let the player know there is always another alternative.

Action, Realism and Classic Realism is fine for me. The thing with just calling it Classic is new people might not realise its also a realism mode, so people who want realism may not even join it
I don't like terms like "new" in a game mode, just because it won't be new forever. At some point it will sound a bit redundant. |

I'm thinking keep it the way it is now in game, but in menus like this:
Action Realism (normal) Classic We shouldn't be adding extra words on. Simplicity is best. What's important here is that players know what the standard mode of RO is, and they they can look one up or one down for their other options and easily infer what they are. It also will reassure everyone that standard RO is now "realistic"
