Hello everyone,
I was playing a game on Pavlov's house the other day, and decided that I could survive the 8 foot jump down one level of the destroyed building. I was wrong. I died. Do you think this is a bit too much? I could understand some sort of damage penalty for doing this (you could fall on your ankle etc), but as far as realism goes, this totally breaks it for me. Now I know everyone is going to blast me for wanting "Call of Duty Mode", but think about the ridiculousness of it (for realism mode) for a second please. Would you really DIE from jumping 8 feet down? So do you think the fall damage is too high? |

Haha, dont worry about anyone raging. I think we all agree a 7-9 foot fall shouldn't hurt anyone let alone kill them.

Agreed. The fall damage is ridiculously high. Jumped off of that open building in Grain Elevator several times now because I concluded that in real life it would just hurt the soles of your feet for a bit, but I forgot that in RO 2 earth's gravity is multiplied by 4 or something.

agreed.
any solder who cannot safely drop one floor through the gaping hole at the front of the station is a soldier who should already be in hospital. |

It's unrealistic, but the alternative is having every soldier in WWII performing ninja leaps off of obstacles to get surprise shots at the enemy.

The conventional wisdom for fatalities from falls is approximately twice your height. So, for most people that's around eleven feet. Normally, people fall off their roof and land on their upper torso, breaking their cervical spine, or having a major head trauma.
For RO2 purposes, jumping down on your lower extremites is going to give you a good chance of suffering broken feet, ankles, knees, etc. Maybe that could get factored in. You could crawl, and still fire your rifle, but that's about it. |

If this 'abuse' would happen on large scale though then maybe a falling player should receive a temporary speed penalty or create a loud thumping sound that gives away the position or something like that. |

Perhaps if we had some kind of slouching down animation from the fall, it would prevent those cheap shots while still letting me drop one level in an apartment building. Anyway, just thoughts. |

well you see back then the earth was still young, and so it was much closer to the sun; therefore gravity was much more powerful...

If the damage for falling were more variable, then a 8-foot fall shouldn't necessarily disable you (And it's probably more like 10 in-game, from full health). Realistically it might do nothing, or it might leave you dead. Most likely your legs would be sore, maybe sprain an ankle (Most WW2 boots were not very good for taking falls). It certainly wouldn't be something you'd want to do frequently. Since the game deals a fixed amount of damage for a fall distance (And variable damage would probably be frustrating the times that you die to a fall you would normally survive), it seems like a good point to set it. There's a good enough chance that a soldier falling that far would be out of the fight, which is really what "dead" represents in this game.
It mainly gets a bit more strange when you're already injured, which turns shorter falls lethal rather more quickly than might make sense. A proper fall-damage model would need to include a lot of different factors. Right now you take the same damage whether you're carefully stepping off a 8-foot ledge to drop onto grass as you do sprinting off that same ledge onto a concrete pad. Seeing as how it's a fairly minor thing, generally unimportant to the main gameplay, and rarely important, the current setup seems reasonable enough. |

Actually I believe if you fall from about 2 meters or 6 feet in game its survivable, any more and break your legs.

I fell from this...
Spoiler!
...wall earlier and survived. At least two metres wouldn't you say? |

![]() You must of been a great judge of height at 10 yrs old, lol Anyway, every human body is a little different. However, the main point is, is that most people will hurt themselves at that height. These people weren't exactly wearing Air Jordan's either. When you are in your 20s or 30s, you will be either breaking, or spraining an ankle or foot. How about an experiment? Get up on your roof, and jump off. BTW, carry a rifle, and up to 80 plus pounds of equipment. Give us an update from the ER about how that went. |

There's a hit point system in play in RO2, and it's all cumulative. Most of the "how did THAT jump kill me?!" moments seem odd only because you've already taken damage from a previous shot/grenade/fall and no longer have the HP to survive the minor damage from a small fall.

Well, OK. In radiology, I see people everyday who have break their feet, ankles, etc. from short distances. So, maybe the height of fatalities from falling are arguable, however, people shouldn't be able to jump 15 feet down & sprint away like a ninja. I think we could all agree about that.

This is one of the things that always irritated me. On maps like Barracks, there's ruined buildings with holes from the second floor to the first. At the bottom of the hole is a pile of rubble. The fall would be maybe 1.25 to 1.5 times the height of the player (maybe a little more). I jump down, knowing that this can't possibly hurt me - but it does!
As has been mentioned, it's much more frustrating when you've got low health and do it and die. The worst I get from a 'fall' (intentional fall) like this IRL is my feet my hurt a little bit for a few seconds if I'm barefoot, landing on concrete and land wrong. Yet, in game, this damage is modelled as the equivalent of being shot. Actually, I just went and tested it and it seems worse than being shot. The attached image shows my body from where I fell. I fell off there (no jumping involved) once and took damage, then did it again straight after and died. That's just plain ridiculous. I could do that all day IRL and I'd be fine or I might later in life have joint problems with my knees. Hell, worst case is I'd sprain my ankle. Absolute worst case for someone who has never jumped off something, has no concept of how to land properly, has weak bones and weighs a lot - they might manage to break a leg. If they did it twice, they might break two legs - not die! It's just so frustrating looking down and saying "yep, that won't be any problem", walking off the ledge and dying or being severely injured. |

Words cannot express how annoying it is that an 10ft drop can kill me. It's not just RO2 either. This problem was carried straight over from Ostfront.
