Hi guys,
I'm just running a quick research type survey thingy for a statistics project i'm doing. Basically I'm asking gaming communities who do they think is the most important members. For Example Modders or normal players. If this works, there should be a poll up top for you to place your votes. If your option is not listed, by all means reply to the thread stating it. Please only reply with serious answers, "my dog" doesn't count as an answer ![]() Overall I know that a gaming community is a big machine that runs together as one, but I think it would be interesting to get individual opinions on the matter. Everyday Public Players Your everyday average Joe who hops on any random server they can find. Organised Group Players Those that play in pretty much the same group with the same people. Players Who Make Mods Those that take the game and create custom content for it, custom maps etc... The Games Developers The officials who release official content and game fixes after the game is released. Thank you for your help. Last edited by BlockBusterBuff; 03-27-2012 at 06:12 AM. |

Should have read first about the "all working together as one" before voting.
![]() I think public players have a large impact, they are the core fan base on the game. Without them, modders would not make as much content if noone would play it. Devs also fall into a similar role as modders. Without a player base, the game would be dead and it would not be worth supporting if noone played it anymore; If noone played it, noone would want to buy it(because there would be noone to play with). They[the publics] are the blood of the game that makes it show up on the radar as opposed to shriveling up in some corner of a bargain bin/internet sinkhole. Organized players are sort of self sufficient. They are not impacted much by other players if they play on private servers and likewise besides adding to the player base, they do not impact others much either on the grand scale. Edit: Clarification

I think it's impossible to answer, each one relies on the other.

Everyday Public Players - selling force
Organised Group Players - those who promote Players Who Make Mods - those whoe refresh/revive/spice up the origingal game, they may also attract attention of gamers who have not yet tried the g ame The Games Developers - no dev no game (after sale support !!!) |

Since you label the devs as specifically the AFTER-RELEASE content, and aren't including that they make the actual GAME, I'd have to say the general public.
I figure they make up the vast majority of a game's playerbase. Maybe 80-90%? Depending on how you define 'organised group players'. And without 80-90% of a game's playerbase, it will by default not get off the ground. But again, I'd liken it to saying air is more important than food. Yes it is, but... in another way, no it isn't. Edit: Interesting the poll is so close. |

Voted everything because I could, and because it's pretty much the only rational choice.

this really is a silly poll if you don't mind me saying as it would be like saying, what is the most important part of a watch? the hands that show the time?, the mechanics that make it work? or the battery that gives it power? as a whole, each one is as important to a games survival and longevity. |

Why am I not on the list?

I agree with Splatpope and braindead.
I'm not sure you can point to a certain subsection of the player base and say "They are the most important". I think the long term fans carry the most weight but the dev should not allow them to dictate how the game is developed. Because bringing in new players is needed. Although I am inclined to say one of the key things to games long life is the modding community.

Yes, of course they are all important functions. OP isn't saying that. He's just asking who, in our opinions we think are more important. That's how I read it anyway.

Voting all of them.
Though I think including long-time fans of everything that is Killing Floor would have been an appropriate choice. |

Without pubbers, your game is dead. It may be fun playing with friends, but if you rely on them being online and willing, good luck playing as often as you want.

you have neglected to add a very, very important type of person from this list..........
The server hosts! that without them, there wouldn't be any public players, or organised teams, or modders and even the dev's would stop supporting the game. |

Unless you mean business offering servers for people to rent, those hosting servers (doing the renting or running themselves) comprise of the four existing options.

Can't decide between public and devs, so I picked both.
Modders, developers, and my friends continuing to support Killing Floor are why I play, but seriously, try to convince somebody that a game is worth buying because "my friends and I play it.." and "there are mods!". Pointing out that it's continually receiving free, official content updates, and the playerbase is huge, is much more convincing. Not saying you don't need all four.. the public, and the more diehard players or the people who only play on occasion with their friends are needed too. The general public doesn't provide feedback, doesn't hype the game to friends, doesn't put up videos on youtube, etc. Arguably the only thing you don't need is a mod community. |

I vote pub players because they actually play the game, and modders because they create new ideas based on playing the game
