I opened the following ports on my modem;

still nothing... Or at least, not today. That's the strange part; it worked yesterday evenning, I played a few games, and here we are again, with my modem resetting while trying to join a game. I can see for a few seconds what happens in the game, then I get deconnected. Could someone PLEASE help me with this issue?

If your modem is actually crashing then try using the Steam server browser instead of the in-game one. There are workarounds for being disconnected 1 minute after joining a server but in this case if your router is crashing, due to not being able to handle the amount of queries the game makes to all the servers, those probably won't help.

If you are timing out after a minute try the workarounds in the top of the first post here: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=38891

I have a thomson modem, I see people running into to walls right around 10-20 seconds after joining. Trried replacing masterserver2.vdf but if I do that, no servers show.

Suggestions?

Will try the other thread's suggestions.

The masterserver2.vdf fix no longer works due to a change to the Steam servers.

With regard telnetting into the router, open a command prompt and type ipconfig and press enter. Look for the default gateway value on whatever interface you are using - it will probably be 192.168.1.254 for that model. Try then using that in the telnet connection - so telnet 192.168.1.254

The only other things you can do are the things listed at the top of the post as workarounds:

  • connect to a game and when it disconnects you open the console with the ` or ' key and type reconnect (you may have to do this twice)
  • wait longer than 1 minute after refreshing the server list to join the game
  • add servers to your favourites and instead of using the internet tab, click favourites and connect from there
  • join on friends through Steam
  • use the Steam server browser from outside of the game to connect
