Ive always been the host for me and my friends as I have the best connection and ran a listen server on my gaming box (Q6600@3.2Ghz, 8GB RAM)
I decided to setup a dedicated linux server on my laptop (Core i5 560, 4GB RAM) to which I did without issues on unbunutu and works just fine with only one issue I can see. On my listen server through my gaming box my friends pings are as low as in the 20's, on my dedicated server on my laptop they only go as low as in the 40's. I always figured a dedicated server would provide better pings, especially as my gaming box is wireless and the laptop is hardwired ![]() Any suggestions to where the issue may lie would be greatly received. What network card do you have on your linux box? Have you hosted other games on that box with great latency? I would see if there is an updated driver for your linux box and see if that helps. also are they running through the same IP as your Laptop?

It may be a case of what adaptor is in your Laptop as well, quite often these arent the greatest. Also could be your router. There may be something happening with the priorities. |
