Reviving this thread since it's pretty clear we all want this since it makes the game less fun.
I remember in ROmod we spend alot of chatting while playing the game, talking about random things because back then the community was still small so everyone knew pretty much everyone.
Even when the community is fairly large (although 1000 players isn't big at all) it's nice to have clear chat messages, blue for axis, red for allies, something else for warning text, etc. If you want to say something to someone with chat you have to use Caps and basically spam chat for him to see the message.
If TWI won't do it perhaps someone can mod it, I don't know how difficult it is though.
